GARDENERS’ World star Monty Don has feared his TV career could be cut short – because of his knees.
The legendary BBC personality has appeared on-screen for years and has become a fan favourite for his excellent horticultural tips.
Monty Don fears his TV career could be cut short due to his ‘decaying’ knees[/caption] The presenter has spent three decades tending to his plants[/caption]Monty, 69, is best known as the lead presenter of the long-running BBC Two programme Gardeners’ World.
He first appeared on the hit show in 2011 after years on-screen as a top expert.
But over the decades he has spent on the ground tending to his plants, Monty admitted that his knees have ‘decayed’.
However, Monty admitted that despite fears his long-running career might be cut short because of it, he has been able to prevent injuries by using rowing machines and weightlifting.
The beloved personality stated that he also wanted to continue to travel the world with his 87-year-old photographer Derry Moore, who worked on his line of books.
Monty explained: “And we travel the world together. I fully intend to carry on gallivanting like that for as long as my knees will allow it.
“Having said that, there’s never in the history of humanity been a better time to be in your seventies.
“We’ve had fantastic healthcare, a really good diet, by and large a freedom from the cloud of war that no generation ever has had.
He told The Times: “My parents died in their fifties, and when I was a child anyone who was 70 was old, anyone who was 80 was very old and it was barely heard of anyone reaching 90, whereas now it’s so common as to not be worth discussing.”
The star was previously given an OBE in 2018 for his services to charity, broadcasting and horticulture.
Monty first shot to fame in the 1990s when he was a regular face on BBC shows such as Holiday and Tomorrow’s World.
The fan favourite first made his television debut in 1989 on ITV‘s This Morning alongside Richard Madeley and Judy Finnegan.
Monty met his wife Sarah while studying at university and they married on July 29, 1983.
The pair ran their own couture costume jewellery business from the early 80s to 1987.
Their pieces were sold in 30 countries worlwide, featured in Vogue, and boasted celebrity fans including the now late Princess Diana and Michael Jackson.
The brand – Monty Don Jewellery – was stocked in Harrods and Harvey Nichols, and the couple went on to open their own store in London’s exclusive Knightsbridge.
Monty previously told the Independent that Sarah was “75 per cent of the designing brains” while he was the salesman.
Sadly, the couple’s business went under in 1987 following the Wall Street Crash and they faced bankruptcy.
However, since then, Sarah has switched her attention to writing and is an author.
Monty, meanwhile, has forged his own successful career as a horticultural expert, writer and TV presenter.
Gardeners World is available to watch on BBC Two and stream on BBC iPlayer.
A STRICTLY Come Dancing pro has sparked concern with his bizarre behaviour, after an ‘inappropriate’ It Takes Two appearance.
Pro dancer Gorka Marquez has been taking to the floor with Dr Punam Krishan on Strictly, and they made an appearance on It Takes Two on Thursday night, updating viewers about their dancing journey.
A Strictly Come Dancing pro has sparked concern with his bizarre behaviour, after an ‘inappropriate’ It Takes Two appearance[/caption] Gorka was hungry so tucked into a biscuit during the interview[/caption] He proceeded to eat the biscuit while chatting to Janette[/caption]They spoke to show host Janette Manrara, and discussed the likes of Gorka’s trending ‘tight’ black trousers that he wore on Saturday night, as well as the Bollywood hit they’ll be dancing too next.
But viewers were distracted by ‘animated’ Gorka – especially as, at one point, the pro dancer decided to eat a biscuit mid-way through the chat.
He also got up and danced around the table as they spoke, and fans noticed he interrupted Dr Punam as she tried to speak.
On social media, one person penned: “Gorka is very ‘lively’ this evening.”
A second added: “gorka is on one tonight #strictly #itt,”
And a third said: “He was bouncing off the walls, saying inappropriate Spanish proverbs and making Janette translate them, getting up and dancing randomly, WTF?”
It comes after Gorka’s trousers on Saturday night left viewers very distracted.
The dancing star was dressed in tight PVC trousers and a sheer top.
Those watching at home noted how the pair were performing in the so-called ‘death slot’ and questioned if his outfit was in order to make their dance more memorable.
The Strictly death slot is the performance most likely to be forgotten as it comes straight after the first one of the night.
Taking to X to discuss the theory, one person wrote: “Death slot rubbish song ….at least wardrobe are supporting Gorka.”
A second commented: “Do you think Gorka knew they were in the death slot when he asked for those trousers??”
As is tradition, the first week scores are rolled over and combined into the second week. Here’s how the leaderboard now looks after the combined scores
While another added: “Can see Gorka in PVC trousers picking up a few extra votes – and whoever he is dancing with.”
And someone else said: “OH MY GOD GORKA – wardrobe coming through again with the see through top.”
Meanwhile Gorka’s celebrity – Morning Live‘s Dr Punam Krishan – brought the “sass” to their foxtrot to Shania Twain‘s hit Man! I Feel Like A Woman!
The NHS GP dressed in a black dress with a white suit panel reminiscent of Shania’s outfit in the music video for the performance which saw her strut and perform high kicks.

Sionainn described her best qualities as her “kindness” and her “sense of humour”.
She told Channel 4: “I would make the perfect wife because I’m funny, I can make a joke about anything.
“If you’re sad I’m going to make you laugh and that’s all you need.”
However, Sionainn did make a rather startling confession.
“Something I do that my husband might not like is I still suck my thumb,” she said.
“Pushing 30 and I still suck my thumb.”
Sionainn also admitted the most embarrassing thing she’d done in the bedroom was when she “accidently kicked her exes dog off the bed”.
After being single for a year, Sionainn thinks that now is the right time to find her “forever person”, although she admitted that she can “lose interest quickly”.
Mostly falling for the bad boys, by going on MAFS she wants to break this cycle.
Sionainn wants a “kind-hearted gentleman” to sweep her off her feet.
“I applied for the show because I have terrible taste in men and thought it was a better idea to have someone else pick someone for me because god knows I need help,” she explained.
Being heavily inked herself, Sionainn said a big turn off for her is “s**t tattoos” such as clouds and angels.
Sionainn will walk down the aisle to marry binman Ryan Livesey.
He revealed his former girlfriends have accused him of being “stubborn,” and his “ick” is when someone believes they are better than others.
When he described his perfect woman, Ryan said that he hoped his new bride would be “fun, down-to-earth and grounded”.
