Which post-Sir Alex Ferguson Man Utd manager has best European record as Erik ten Hag’s horror stats revealed

ERIK TEN HAG’S Manchester United have won just one of their last nine matches in Europe.

The Dutchman may have won two domestic cups since arriving at Old Trafford.

However, last season’s eighth-placed finish was the club’s worst in the Premier League era.

And he has struggled to make his mark on the continent, too.

On Wednesday, Ten Hag saw his Red Devils take the lead against former club FC Twente.

But goalscorer Christian Eriksen had his pocket picked before the Eredivisie outfit grabbed an equaliser.

From his 19 matches across the Champions League and Europa League since 2022-23, the Ten Hag has now collected nine wins, four draws and six defeats.

Of those nine wins, five came in the Europa League group stage in his first season – two against Sheriff Tiraspol and Omonia apiece with another three points against Real Sociedad.

United did beat Barcelona at home in the knockout play-off round then saw off Real Betis home and away but then fell to Sevilla.

In last season’s chaotic Champions League campaign, Ten Hag’s side managed one win against Copenhagen, a draw at Galatasaray and four defeats in Group A which also featured Bayern Munich.

FOOTBALL FREE BETS AND SIGN UP DEALS

United finished bottom of the group to be knocked out of Europe.

This term, they began with that disappointing draw against Twente – to extend the miserable recent run ahead of facing Porto, Fenerbahce, PAOK, Bodo/Glimt, Viktoria Plzen, Rangers and Steaua Bucuresti in the new Europa League format.

a poster for the man utd europa league draw

Ten Hag fumed: “We kept them alive when 1-0 up controlling the game and then you have to be consistent and keep going in the second half, we dropped the level and gave a goal away.

“We didn’t finish it off, we had to go for the second goal and they stayed alive and we got punished with a mistake from ourselves.

“It was the game of their life, they fought for every yard and we didn’t – 99 per cent is not enough, you have to give 100 per cent, you have to kill the game, finish it off, we are leading 1-0, but you have to go for the second goal, then you kill the game.

“Especially as we are very ambitious and when you have ambition you have to perform, prove the point and especially today in the second half we were too complacent, we didn’t bring it over the line and, as a team, you have to bring this.

“Today I have some criticism. It is not only the team that has to look in the mirror, I am part of it.”

Wednesday’s result bumped Ten Hag’s Manchester United win rate in European football below 50 per cent to 47 per cent.

But that record is not the worst of recent United bosses.

Since Sir Alex Ferguson, seven managers have led United in Europe.

Nine managers Man Utd considered before keeping Erik ten Hag

ERIK TEN HAG appears to be safe as Man Utd manager, but the Dutchman edged dangerously close to the sack.

Here are nine managers Red Devils chiefs are reported to have considered for the job and what allegedly happened with each.

Gareth Southgate

Enjoys plenty of support among Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Ineos chiefs but made clear he wouldn’t talk to any clubs until after Euro 2024. There is yet to be any suggestion that contact was made with the England boss.

Kieran McKenna

Talks were opened with McKenna’s representatives before the FA Cup final, but the former Man Utd coach opted to sign a new deal with Ipswich after Ten Hag’s Wembley win.

Roberto De Zerbi

Allegedly sounded out before the FA Cup final with salary expectations discussed. But Ineos chiefs concluded ex-Brighton boss was not the right fit for the project.

Thomas Frank

Brentford boss met Man Utd representatives the day before the FA Cup final. The Dane also dined with Ratcliffe, Roy Hodgson and Frank Lampard at the launch of a new Ineos car in February.

Marco Silva

Fulham boss reportedly met Man Utd representatives face-to-face two days before the FA Cup final, around the same time as Ten Hag was conducting his press conference.

Mauricio Pochettino

Fell out of Man Utd’s thinking in the first week of June, despite being a favourite of Sir Alex Ferguson.

Thomas Tuchel

Made a very strong impression and came across well during a Monaco meeting. Personal terms were discussed before the ex-Chelsea and Bayern Munich boss decided to step back from the process.

Ruben Amorim

Sporting boss was discussed by the Man Utd hierarchy but did not make the final reckoning.

Roberto Martinez

Portugal manager was considered in the early stages.

The two interim bosses top and tail the list with Ralf Rangnick’s win rate zero per cent with two draws and a defeat while Michael Carrick secured victory in his one match.

That was a 2-0 win at Villarreal in the Champions League with goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho.

Ten Hag is only ahead of Louis van Gaal of the permanent bosses with the fellow Dutchman picking up three wins from his ten matches.

David Moyes managed victory in five of his ten games to return a 50 per cent win rate.

That is marginally behind Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on 54 per cent.

The Norwegian took charge of 35 European matches for United – more than anyone since Ferguson – and won 19, drew six and lost ten.

But of the permanent bosses, Jose Mourinho leads the way.

He secured 18 victories, five draws and six defeats from 29 games to rack up an impressive 62 per cent win rate.

The Special One even lifted the Europa League trophy in 2017, beating Ajax in Stockholm to secure United’s sixth European trophy in their history.

Popstar Tom died aged 33 following a battle with brain cancer.

Kelsey, 33, recently revealed she was “in a better place” mentally now – and believed her new man Will was “sent” to her by the all Time Low hitmaker.

She went Instagram official with the tree surgeon over the weekend.

Now The Sun’s exclusive images show the duo stepping out with huge smiles as they start their happy chapter together.

They were spotted filling up their car at a garage in Bexleyheath before picking up some tasty treats from the M&S Food.

Kelsey looked snug in an orange, pink and green knit cardigan paired with black trousers and a dark top.

She finished off her look with comfy loafers and a nude bag, leaving her blonde hair in a naturally straight style.

Kelsey also went make-up free, accessorising with huge gold hoop earrings.

She stared lovingly into Will’s eyes as they headed to their car.

The tree surgeon, donning a black top and blue skinny jeans, looked just as chipper as he took the lead.

Hunky Will has been a big part of Kelsey’s life over the past few months.

An insider said: “Will and Kelsey really hit if off earlier this year and he has been incredibly supportive of her.

“He helped her at a recent charity football match for Tom Parker and has attended other events with.

The most common symptoms of a brain tumour

More than 12,000 Brits are diagnosed with a primary brain tumour every year — of which around half are cancerous — with 5,300 losing their lives.

The disease is the most deadly cancer in children and adults aged under 40, according to the Brain Tumour Charity.

Brain tumours reduce life expectancies by an average of 27 years, with just 12 per cent of adults surviving five years after diagnosis.

There are two main types, with non-cancerous benign tumours growing more slowly and being less likely to return after treatment.

Cancerous malignant brain tumours can either start in the brain or spread there from elsewhere in the body and are more likely to return.

Brain tumours can cause headachesseizuresnausea, vomiting and memory problems, according to the NHS.

They can also lead to changes in personality weakness or paralysis on one side of the problem and problems with speech or vision.

The nine most common symptoms are:

  1. Headaches
  2. Seizures
  3. Feeling sick
  4. Being sick
  5. Memory problems
  6. Change in personality
  7. Weakness or paralysis on one side of the body
  8. Vision problems
  9. Speech problems

If you are suffering any of these symptoms, particularly a headache that feels different from the ones you normally get, you should visit your GP.

TOUGH CHOICE

Kelsey recently opened up on why she has removed her wedding ring.

She told how it felt “really painful” to look down and see the band given to her by her late husband – prompting her to make the heartbreaking decision.

Tom died in March 2022 two years after being diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour known as glioblastoma multiforme.

Kelsey has been bravely bringing up their two little girls Aurelia and Bodhi while grieving for her childhood sweetheart.

The influencer and mother, who describes herself as a “Colitis warrior, Charity Ambassador, Newspaper Journalist and Podcast host”, revealed that she used to be mortified talking about life with a stoma bag.

But now, not only is she raising awareness about it, but she’s cashing in too.

In a recent clip shared on social media, Holly, who previously opened up on her horrendous experience at a Taylor Swift concert, explained how making videos online and talking about her life with a stoma is enabling her to pay her mortgage.

She said: “I just saw a creator do this video saying about how a video had paid her mortgage this month.

“And I just wanna say that my missing bum hole is paying my mortgage, well, my portion of the mortgage this month, because last month, you all went crazy for my videos talking about my missing bum hole, and I made quite a bit of money off that.

“So, thank you to everybody for watching me talk about my missing bum hole and sharing and spreading awareness of that.

“It means a lot. So keep watching and keep learning and keep spreading the word, because some of us have no bum holes.”

In another video, Holly revealed the journey she has been on content creation, as she told her fans: “You never regret what you didn’t try.”

Alongside a clip of her posing in a bikini, she shared: “I remember first filming my TikToks with my stoma bag, feeling embarrassed and wondering if people would laugh at me or be mean.

“That was two years ago now. Since then I can honestly say this community has changed my life for the better.

“Sharing the ups and downs for all to see. Connecting with people like me. Inspiring others to live their life authentically.”

Keep spreading the word, because some of us have no bum holes

What are the red flag warning signs of bowel cancer?

IT'S the fourth most common cancer in the UK, the second deadliest - yet bowel cancer can be cured, if you catch it early enough.

While screening is one way of ensuring early diagnosis, there are things everyone can do to reduce their risk of the deadly disease.

Being aware of the signs and symptoms of bowel cancer, spotting any changes and checking with your GP can prove a life-saver.

If you notice any of the signs, don’t be embarrassed and don’t ignore them. Doctors are used to seeing lots of patients with bowel problems.

The five red-flag symptoms of bowel cancer include:

  • Bleeding from the back passage, or blood in your poo
  • A change in your normal toilet habits – going more frequently for example
  • Pain or a lump in your tummy
  • Extreme tiredness
  • Losing weight

Tumours in the bowel typically bleed, which can cause a shortage of red blood cells, known as anaemia. It can cause tiredness and sometimes breathlessness.

In some cases bowel cancer can block the bowel, this is known as a bowel obstruction.

Other signs include:

  • Gripping pains in the abdomen
  • Feeling bloated
  • Constipation and being unable to pass wind
  • Being sick
  • Feeling like you need to strain – like doing a number two – but after you’ve been to the loo

While these are all signs to watch out for, experts warn the most serious is noticing blood in your stools.

But, they warn it can prove tricky for doctors to diagnose the disease, because in most cases these symptoms will be a sign of a less serious disease.

Holly is currently campaigning to make emergency stoma kits available on the high street.

Why would you need a stoma bag?

A COLOSTOMY is an operation on the colon – a part of the bowel.

It diverts one end of the colon through an opening in the tummy, known as the stoma.

This means that the person can no longer pass poo.

The poo is instead collected in a stoma bag, which is placed over the opening.

Many people have to undergo a colostomy due to illness.

These can include:

A stoma may also be necessary due to genetic disorders, birth abnormalities, after trauma to the abdomen, and following radiotherapy.

The image shows a house at the forefront, with two windows, a chimney, a fence, trees and rolling hills in the background.

While the image looks deceptively simple, there’s something wrong with it.

Can you see what it is?

It might seem a bit daunting at first, but the key is to carefully examine each section of the scene.

Get ready to start scanning every inch of the picture, your 23 seconds start now.

Meanwhile, why not try some other optical illusions while you scroll?

Test your brain power and solve the questions in this test to reveal if you have a high IQ.

This picture will surely leave you baffled – and you might scratch your head trying to find the correct solution.

Picture puzzles are a form of brain teaser that tests the reader’s critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

These challenges have the potential to boost intelligence and improve concentration.

If you find this challenge too easy, or enjoy testing your brain, have a look at our other optical illusions.

To make things harder, try spotting the hidden cat in this optical illusion.

How can optical illusions and brainteasers help me?

Engaging in activities like solving optical illusions and brainteasers can have many cognitive benefits as it can stimulate various brain regions.

Some benefits include:

  • Cognitive stimulation: Engaging in these activities challenges the brain, promoting mental agility and flexibility.
  • Problem-solving skills: Regular practice enhances analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Memory improvement: These challenges often require memory recall and can contribute to better memory function.
  • Creativity: They encourage thinking outside the box, fostering creativity and innovative thought processes.
  • Focus and attention: Working on optical illusions and brainteasers requires concentration, contributing to improved focus.
  • Stress relief: The enjoyable nature of these puzzles can act as a form of relaxation and stress relief.

Psychologists at The University of Glasgow found that staring at an optical illusion can improve eye sight by allowing you to see small print.

Escape London says puzzles can also give your mind a great workout and may “boost your brain’s activity” which “reduces the risk of dementia.”

Still haven’t worked out what’s wrong with the picture?

Here’s a helpful hint: Look at the direction of the smoke from the chimney and the trees.

We’re threatened with fines for parking outside my OWN homes – it’s outrageous & we are being targeted by the council

RESIDENTS on an estate are at risk of being fined for parking on their own driveways, after a council painted double yellow lines right outside their homes.

Maciej Gawlik has lived on the same street in Southampton for eight years – and claims at least two of his neighbours have already been fined.

The lines were painted on Mansfield Park Street three years ago right in front of homes, making it a struggle to park – and residents say wardens are targeting the area, as a result.

They claim at times two wardens will be issuing tickets on the street in the same day.

Maciej, 43, said his neighbour was slapped with a fine because his tyre was brushing one of the lines.

He can’t fit his in the garage and its now too big for the drive, so like others, he is forced to risk the wrath of the wardens.

Maciej said despite it being a new development with lots of first time buyers and growing families, “no thought” has gone into providing driveways and garages big enough for family cars.

He told the Southern Daily Echo: “It’s outrageous – so many of the people here have had to downsize their cars just so that they can fit them on their driveway.

“We have families with five children and they are being squeezed into a tiny Ford Fiesta – all because the council think they can come and make a bit of fast cash.”

Locals say they’ve been served £30 parking charges, which increase to £70 if not paid within two weeks.

Fellow resident, Kelly Taylor, 34, told the newspaper because there’s no space for visitors, one person is not able to come see his mum who has cancer.

Natasha Harding, 37, said she approached the council about buying an area of “wasted” green space next to her flat to turn into parking, but was “instantly shut down”.

Councillor Eamonn Keogh, cabinet member for environment and transport on Southampton City Council said: “Double yellow lines are used to enable the free flow of vehicles, especially emergency vehicles and service vehicles, in any particular area.

“Residents can request a review of the parking restrictions in their area through the form on our website.

“Drivers who receive a Penalty Charge Notice are entitled to submit an appeal on our website.”

The council did not wish to comment further when contacted by The Sun.

Security vid shows would-be Trump ‘assassin’s’ son being arrested after ‘child pornography files found at home’

SECURITY footage has captured the moment the son of the man who allegedly tried to assassinate Donald Trump on his Florida golf course was arrested by cops.

Oran Alexander Routh, son of Ryan Routh, was arrested by the feds on child pornography charges earlier this week.

He was arrested after cops had raided his home in Greensboro, North Carolina on Saturday.

As part of their probe, two Samsung Galaxy Note devices were uncovered and hundreds of child pornography files were discovered on an SD card, per legal docs seen by The U.S. Sun.

Security footage, obtained by the Fox affiliate WGHP, showed Routh surrendering to cops.

Routh, 35, wearing a black Stetson-like hat trooped toward officers with his hands in the air.

He turned around as two cops holding firearms swooped in on him.

Local mechanic Lacine Cherif saw the arrest play out in real time and likened it to something out of a film.

“You usually see that on TV or the movies, but I actually saw it in real life … It was actually scary,” he told WGHP.

Cherif revealed that officers had been staking out the area before making the arrest.

Routh has been charged with counts of possessing and receiving child sexual abuse material, according to court docs.

Cops revealed they found explicit content on one of the cell phones, as reported by NPR.

His home was raided as part of the ongoing probe into his father Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, and he is due to appear in court for a detention hearing on October 1.

Ryan Routh allegedly tried to assassinate Trump on September 15 after he reportedly scoped out the West Palm Beach golf course for 12 hours before being caught.

Routh lay in wait in the bushes around 500 yards from the former president and cops found a backpack and a GoPro device that was discarded at the scene.

A Secret Service agent opened fire after spotting the barrel of Routh’s weapon.

The gunman fled the scene before he was later caught as cops executed a traffic stop.

Routh was initially charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and carrying a firearm with an obliterated serial number.

He has also been charged with the attempted assassination of an ex-president.

It was thought Routh was armed with an AK-47 style weapon but officials revealed the gun was a SKS semiautomatic gun.

Prosecutors revealed cell phone data pinpointed Routh to be at the golf course and near Trump’s luxury residence, Mar-a-Lago.

Routh also penned a note that revealed his intentions to try and kill Trump.

The letter started with the line “Dear world.”

“This was an assassination attempt on Donald Trump but I failed you. I tried my best and gave it all the gumption I could muster,” it said.

“It is up to you now to finish the job; and I will offer $150,000 to whomever can complete the job.

“Everyone across the globe from the youngest to the oldest know that Trump is unfit to be anything, much less a U.S. president.

The Justice Department released a chilling letter from would-be assassin Ryan Wesley Routh about his plan to kill Donald Trump on Monday.

“Dear world,” the note began.

“It is up to you now to finish the job; and I will offer $150,000 to whomever can complete the job.

“Trump fails to understand any of [that],” the letter concluded

“US presidents must at bare minimum embody the moral fabric that is America, and be kind, caring and selfless and always stand for humanity.”

Cops also discovered a notebook full of criticism toward the government.

Routh, a pro-Ukrainian activist, could face life behind bars if he’s convicted.

Attorney General Merrick Garland branded the assassination attempt “heinous” during a press conference on Tuesday.

He warned Routh could be hit with extra charges.

Trump accused the Justice Department of downplaying the case, as reported by The New York Post.

He claimed the charges against Routh were a slap on the wrist.

Judge Aileen Cannon has been assigned the court case.

She threw out Trump’s classified documents case in July.

Trump appeared to make a joke about the apparent assassination attempt days later on the Fox News show Gutfeld!

He joked that golf is a dangerous game.

I’m a haircare pro & swear by 9 washing rules, they helped grow my shoulder length locks to my waist & only take seconds

AFTER growing her hair from her shoulders down to her waist, one woman shared the exact washing routine she follows.

The haircare fanatic shared her go-to tips, including the ingredient she adds to her shampoo.

TikTok user Amber Pot shared the hair washing routine she swears by for growing out your locks
tiktok.com/@amberpot

In her viral video, TikTok user Amber Pot (@amberpot) broke down her beauty regime.

For her first step, she applies hair oil to the mids and ends of her locks.

The TikToker explained that this helps “to protect it from hard water damage.”

She also uses a pre-wash scalp treatment, which she described as “a must after scalp oiling.”

Amber’s go-to scalp treatments are usually “a scalp scrub or salicylic acid.”

Next, she recommended shampooing your locks twice, explaining the reasons behind each rinse.

“The first wash breaks product build-up, while the second wash gets rid of dirt,” Amber explained.

And when it comes to shampooing, the haircare pro only applies the product to her roots.

According to the TikTok user, shampoo can dry out the ends of your locks.

Amber also elevates her shampoo by adding rosemary essential oil for hair growth.

She then uses warm water to wash out the shampoo but switches to cold water to rinse her conditioner.

However, before applying conditioner, Amber explained that she uses a hair mask in the shower.

When applying conditioner, she only adds the product to the mids and ends of her locks.

She explained that the product would make her locks greasy if applied to her roots.

For her final step, Amber always finishes her hair washing routine with a cold rinse.

The five best DIY hair hacks

One beauty expert has shared the easy way to refresh your hair in between washes without reaching for the dry shampoo.

A hairstylist has revealed the best way to get rid of flyaways in seconds for picture-perfect hair.

Sick of you hair falling flat? One woman shared the easy trick to add extra volume without backcombing your roots.

Plus, one hairstylist shared how to keep your hair straight and frizz-free without using any heat.

For blondies among us, it turns out you’ve been applying purple shampoo all wrong and the right way will stop it from going patchy.

The TikToker also advised her audience to “never sleep with wet hair.”

Amber’s followers shared their thoughts on the advice in the comments section.

“This saved my hair,” wrote one impressed viewer.

“If you massage your roots everytime you shampoo, that works [too],” suggested another TikTok user.

“Might have to give this a try, thanks for giving your tips,” commented a third person.

Mum reveals reason she blames HERSELF for partner of 17 years’ affair & his leaving ‘months after child’s first holiday’

A MUM has left people heartbroken after revealing the reason she blames herself for her partner of 17 years’ affair.

She explained that her husband – to whom she had been married for seven years – was her “best friend”, and she thought they were “happy”.

After he became very secretive on his phone, she then found out he’d been unfaithful to her with someone 200 miles away[/caption]

“We had been on our little one’s first holiday abroad just months before he left,” she added.

But she slowly started “noticing changes” in his behaviour, such as him becoming “very secretive” and disappearing for “whole weekends, blocking my number and leaving me to care for our child and dog alone”.

“He would speak to me horribly and treated me awfully, which was completely unlike him,” she continued in the post on Mumsnet.

She eventually discovered that he was seeing someone 200 miles way, and had been “writing love letters to her, sending her sex toys and taking her on trips to the theatre”.

When she confronted him, he told her he “didn’t love me anymore and he was leaving”.

“When I was at work one day, he moved out all his stuff and left,” she added.

While the events unfolded a year ago, she admitted it had “completely broken” her, and she doesn’t think she’ll “ever understand it”.

“Deep down, I know I blame myself because I feel like I somehow caused it,” she added.

“I have a stressful job and I found first time parenting during a pandemic overwhelming.”

She’s now found someone new herself, but has been struggling with whether or not she’s “ready” to move on from the past.

“He’s so lovely and so patient and understanding but I keep doubting it,” she admitted.

“Not because of him I don’t think but because I’m still healing and I’m not sure I can go through another heartbreak like it.”

After her husband’s affair, she had resigned herself to “staying alone”, and “didn’t expect to feel this way about someone so soon”.

And now she’s worrying about “hurting my ex, even though he seemingly didn’t care about my feelings at all”, as well as worrying that she’s ” still in love with my ex husband and that it’s not fair on the guy I’m seeing”.

“But then on the other hand I don’t want to punish myself forever for an affair I didn’t commit,” she concluded, asking if anyone had found themselves in a similar situation.

People were quick to offer their takes on the situation in the comments section, with one writing: “First of all, you did nothing to make your husband have an affair, that is all on him so you have no reason whatsoever to blame yourself…

Four red flags your partner is cheating

Private Investigator Aaron Bond from BondRees revealed four warning signs your partner might be cheating.

They start to take their phone everywhere with them

In close relationships, it’s normal to know each other’s passwords and use each other’s phones, if their phone habits change then they may be hiding something.

Aaron says: “If your partner starts changing their passwords, starts taking their phone everywhere with them, even around the house or they become defensive when you ask to use their phone it could be a sign of them not being faithful.”

“You should also look at how they place their phone down when not in use. If they face the phone with the screen facing down, then they could be hiding something.”

They start telling you less about their day

When partners cheat they can start to avoid you, this could be down to them feeling guilty or because it makes it easier for them to lie to you.

“If you feel like your partner has suddenly begun to avoid you and they don’t want to do things with you any more or they stop telling you about their day then this is another red flag.”

“Partners often avoid their spouses or tell them less about their day because cheating can be tough, remembering all of your lies is impossible and it’s an easy way to get caught out,” says Aaron.

Their libido changes

Your partner’s libido can change for a range of reasons so it may not be a sure sign of cheating but it can be a red flag according to Aaron.

Aaron says: “Cheaters often have less sex at home because they are cheating, but on occasions, they may also have more sex at home, this is because they feel guilty and use this increase in sex to hide their cheating.  You may also find that your partner will start to introduce new things into your sex life that weren’t there before.”

They become negative towards you

Cheaters know that cheating is wrong and to them, it will feel good, this can cause tension and anxiety within themselves which they will need to justify.

“To get rid of the tension they feel inside they will try to convince themselves that you are the problem and they will become critical of you out of nowhere.  Maybe you haven’t walked the dog that day, put the dishes away or read a book to your children before bedtime.  A small problem like this can now feel like a big deal and if you experience this your partner could be cheating,” warns Aaron.

“You have said yourself that your new man is very patient and understanding, that is even more reason to take it slowly at your own pace.

“There’s no need to rush into anything and there’s no reason to break off your new relationship because it might turn out to be the best thing that’s happened to you for a long time.”

“Just continue to take it slowly,” another advised.

“A year on from a 17 year relationship is not a long time.

“I wouldn’t give up on the new man/relationship though. I’ve been dating on and off for a while and I’ve not experienced those feelings for anyone yet.

“I think it’s rare… and you can’t put life on hold forever.”
