Affected customers of the Cash App data breach must apply by November 18

The November 18 deadline to claim is fast approaching, with consumers being urged to fill out an online form to access the money.

Cash App is a popular online payment service with around 56 million transacting users.

According to the settlement website, people can submit a claim if their account had fraudulent withdrawals or transfers provided they had an account between August 23, 2018 and August 20, 2024.

Plaintiffs in the class action case alleged that the app, and its parent company Block, formally known as Square, failed to take steps to block unauthorized users and protect consumers’ data.

The class action also claimed that the company mishandled customer complaints about the security breaches and fraudulent transactions.

While the company denied wrongdoing, it settled — avoiding further litigation costs.

Now, Americans can get payments up to $2,500.

Users must provide documentation and can claim money for reimbursement for losses related to identify theft, credit tracking and fees.

They can also be reimbursed for lost time related to the incident, worth up to $65.

Users can also file a claim for any losses that came directly from unauthorized account access.

The deadline to file a claim is November 18, 2024.

More info is available on the settlement website.

MORE SETTLEMENTS

The legal action comes following a number of class action settlements following privacy breaches.

Streaming giant Tubi recently agreed to pay almost $20 million to settle a class action lawsuit.

The privacy suit alleged Tubi shared users’ personal information with third parties without getting their consent first, violating the Video Privacy Protection Act.

While the streaming company has not admitted any wrongdoing, it has agreed to pay the sum to settle the lawsuit.

To receive Tubi settlement benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by November 28.

Clif Bar was also recently the target of a class action lawsuit over whether it misled customers into thinking its products were healthy.

The lawsuit filed against Clif Bar & Company argued that marketing the protein bars as “nutrition for sustained energy” distracts from the notable amount of sugar in the bars.

While the bars proudly proclaim they contain no high fructose corn syrup, nearly 40% of the calorie content comes from added sugars, the lawsuit states.

Anyone who purchased an Original Clif Bar or Clif Kid ZBar in California or New York between April 2014 and March 2023 is eligible for a payout.
