JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — The Carteret County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a major supplier of cocaine in Carteret and Onslow Counties.
Narcotics detectives conducted a several months-long investigation into Hector Rivera II, of Hubert. Information was provided to the sheriff’s office that Rivera was a significant source of the drug and that he allegedly had ties to Mexican Drug Cartel Traffickers.
Detectives attempted a traffic stop on October 21 on the car that Rivera owns. The car drove off, leading detectives on a high-speed chase starting in Carteret County and ending in Onslow County. Rivera fled the scene on foot in Onslow County, leaving his car and trailer behind. Detectives searched the car and trailer, finding 1 kilo of cocaine.
Rivera was found with the help of the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office and apprehended on October 25. He was taken to the Carteret County Jail and charged with trafficking cocaine and flee to elude arrest. Rivera’s initial bond of $250,000 was raised by a district court judge to $1.5 million.
