Broncos player injured in shooting Friday in Denver

DENVER (KDVR) — Denver Broncos wide receiver Josh Reynolds was injured in a shooting that occurred on Oct. 18 and resulted in two people arrested, the team confirmed Thursday afternoon.

The team provided FOX31 with a statement about the shooting.

“Josh Reynolds was a victim of a shooting on Friday in Denver and received treatment for minor injuries. Out of respect for the legal process, we will defer further comment on this matter to the authorities,” the team said.

Reynolds, 29, did not play in the Oct. 17 game against the New Orleans Saints as he was placed on injured reserve on Oct. 12 for fracturing his finger during the Denver Broncos victory against the Las Vegas Raiders. He has caught 12 passes for a total of 183 yards this season, resulting in one touchdown.

The Denver Broncos signed Reynolds to a two-year, $9 million contract in late March after playing with Texas A&M University, the L.A. Rams, the Tennessee Titans, and the Detroit Lions before coming to Denver.

Denver police said that on Friday, officers responded to the shooting at about 3:12 a.m. on Oct. 18 on southbound Interstate 25, near the 4800 block of South Quebec Street. The shooting resulted in two people with non-life-threatening injuries, one now identified as Reynolds. The pair were transported to local hospitals after the shooting.

The Belleview Regional Transportation District light rail station is located in the 4800 block of South Quebec Street, which borders I-25. Denver police said the shooting began along a stretch of southbound I-25 south of Colorado Boulevard, where Reynolds and a friend were traveling in a vehicle when the shooting occurred.

Eventually, Reynolds and his friend stopped on the shoulder of I-25 north of Belleview Avenue. The circumstances surrounding the shooting are still under investigation.

The Denver Police Department said Burr Charlesworth, 42, was arrested on Oct. 19, and Luis Mendoza, 35, was arrested on Oct. 22. Both are being held for investigation of attempted first-degree murder and first-degree assault.
