WE’RE all looking for ways to keep the heat in as temperatures outside drop.
And there’s a new product that’s got people reaching for their bankcards, as it “locks in the heat and blocks out the cold”.

Manufacturers Must Have Ideas boast that the tape is the “ultimate solution to draughty homes”.
Placed around the door and window frames, it creates an airtight and water-resistant barrier, and stops any wind or cold getting into the house.
As it’s see-through, it’s also discreet and practically invisible, and doesn’t interfere with opening the windows and doors if you need to.
Plus you can install it quickly and easily, without needing any tools, or causing any damage.
And customers were quick to rave about the tape when an ad was shared on Facebook.

1. Turn your heating down by one degree

2. Switch appliances and lights off
It sounds simple, but fully turning off appliances and lights that are not in use can reduce your energy bills, especially in winter. Turning off lights and appliances when they are not in use, can save you up to £20 a year on your energy bills
3. Install a smart meter
Smart meters are a great way to keep control over your energy use, largely because they allow you to see where and when your gas and electricity is being used.
4. Consider switching energy supplier
No matter how happy you are with your current energy supplier, they may not be providing you with the best deals, especially if you’ve let a fixed-rate contract expire without arranging a new one. If you haven’t browsed any alternative tariffs lately, then you may not be aware that there are better options out there.
However, Aydin Sigva, an expert in energy saving and insulation at Cavitech.uk, explained that the first thing that households need to do is make sure they have the right insulation in place.
He added that the majority of homes are full of places where valuable heat can escape – creating a kind of sieve effect.
“Cavity and loft insulation save a few hundred pounds a year each – loft insulation is usually cheaper so should be the first job you do,” he said.
“If you’re a tenant, you’ll need the landlord to do it or get permission to do it yourself but its only worthwhile if you’re staying long-term as it’ll take a few years to get your money back in savings.”
