Joey King suffered a minor wardrobe malfunction on Thursday while on her way to receive the Face of the Future Award at the 2024 WIF Honors Ceremony.
While on her way to the stage at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, the 25-year-old actress’ blazer popped open, leaving her struggling to keep it closed.
The Golden Globe nominee wore a shocked expression and held her jacket together until an usher helped her secure the garment with a safety pin to prevent her from exposing herself.
‘Wow. The perfect moment for my shirt to pop open. And I’m not wearing a bra!’ the star mused.
She began an emotional acceptance speech, thanking her mother Jamie, grandmother Elaine and sisters Kelli and Hunter.

‘I’m so flattered. What a night. I’m overwhelmed in the best way possible. First of all, I would like to thank Max Mara and Women in Film for this incredible privilege of being named Max Mara’s Face of the Future,” she began.
King continued, “I have been working consistently from a young age. Succeeding is all I wanted to do with my life, but sometimes I just never felt like I was enough. It was because I was focused on wanting to be included in the things I didn’t belong to. It didn’t matter that I have so much to be grateful for. I often thought about what wasn’t happening instead of what was. Maybe this is some kind of youngest child syndrome.’
‘I don’t know, I just want to play with my sisters and their older friends. Or maybe it was because we are in an industry where we constantly feel like we have to compare ourselves to others who are doing great. Something changed in me when I was 19 or 20 years old. I just felt so much calmer,” King added.
In her mid-20s, she said she began to feel “less and less” as if she “needed an invitation or an email to feel worthy and to focus more on the beauty and fulfillment that” she already had has.
King also spoke about how self-acceptance has made her a “better actor, a better daughter, a better sister, a better wife and a better friend.”
She concluded her speech by saying that the women in her life are “the only reason” she is here today.
“Without their leadership, I couldn’t be called the Women in Film Max Mara face of the future,” she said of her loved ones. “I am so deeply grateful for this honor and for this fight, and for everything this organization does to make women feel powerful. Because we are so powerful. Thank you very much. This is great.’
The next day, King proved she wasn’t fazed by the wardrobe malfunction when she posted footage of the moment to her Instagram.

In addition to her successful career, King’s personal life is also flourishing.
She recently celebrated one year of marriage to her husband, Steven Piet, 40.
The couple married in September 2023 in Mallorca, Spain, after meeting on the set of The Act in 2019 when King was 20.
Joey previously talked about tying the knot at the age of 24.

“Responsibility makes you grow up a little faster,” she added.
“And my family and everyone in my life love Steven. He is the easiest person to love. They were so excited,” the We Were the Lucky Ones star said.
Joey also said that the hardest part about deciding to get married is that everyone has an opinion about it.
“There’s never the right way to do it without someone commenting on it,” she said.
In addition to her successful career, King’s personal life is also thriving, as she and her husband, Steven Piet, recently celebrated one year of marriage; pictured in September 2024
“It’s either, ‘You’re too young, you’re too old, how long have you been dating?’ or, ‘You don’t know each other that well. You’ve been together too long – where’s the ring?’” she said.
She continues: ‘My grandmother got married at the age of 18, and that was very normal at the time. If someone got married at 24 when my grandmother was 18, they would say, “What’s taking so long?” So it’s all relative and everyone is different.”
