GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) — Book fairs will be allowed to resumetin Greenville County schools starting in January.
The district announced Tuesday it has made agreements with at least two book fair vendors.
Book fairs were paused in August due to requirements from the South Carolina State Board of Education about how instructional materials are selected. It requires school districts to ensure teaching materials, books, or other materials presented to students are age appropriate and do not contain sexual content.
A district representative said vendors have agreed to sign a form acknowledging it understands and will comply with SC Regulation 43-170. Vendors must also give schools a list of books that may be sold at the book fair at least four weeks in advance.
“Media specialists will review and vet the books, and the list will be shared with parents and guardians ahead of time for review,” Tim Waller, the district’s director of media relations, said. “Students will need a signed permission form to attend the book fair.”
