A BBC News star has gotten married LIVE on air as part of an extra special news broadcast.
Thomas Mackintosh, an award-winning journalist with the BBC, saw his wedding ceremony aired live on air in a very special moment.
He took a break from reporting in order to get wed[/caption]
As part of a very special day at the Old Marylebone Town Hall, Thomas was one of 100 couples tying the knot in order to mark 100 years since the very first wedding held at the iconic venue.
Footage of Thomas marrying his wife Paige was shown as he took a break from reporting on the big day in order to enjoy his very own big day.
Airing Thomas’ wedding, a BBC News banner read across the screen: “Breaking: The BBC’s very own Thomas Mackintosh is now a married man.”
Ahead of walking down the aisle this morning, Thomas said as part of his report for the BBC: “As it happens, I’m one of the couples getting married today – and as part of the coverage I’ve been speaking to many others doing the same.
“It’s quite unique to share such an important day with so many other couples.
“And today certainly sounds like it’s going to be chaos – but organised chaos: Seven couples an hour, starting from 08:00 and going well into the night.
“You get a time, do the legal bits and you leave a few minutes later.
“Then registrars repeat that pattern 99 times until all 100 couples have had their ceremonies. It has a speed dating feel to it!
“People of all ages, professions and backgrounds have been telling me how they met, how they proposed and why they have chosen to be part of this historic day.”
In order to mark 100 years since the first wedding at the iconic venue, the Old Marlybone Town Hall is welcoming 100 couples to wed one another for just £100.
The venue first opened in 1920 but did not start hosting weddings until four years later.
The first wedding took place on October 1 1924.
Ceremonies con often cost over £1,200 with many of the couples taking advantage of the bargain pricing for their big day.
75 staff have been aiming to conduct seven wedding ceremonies an hour with each lasting between 15 and 20 minuetes.
There has been a mixture of weddings, civil partnerships and vow renewals with Thomas’ being the stand-out of the day.
