The two footballing icons have shared 13 of the past 16 awards, eight going to Messi and five for Ronaldo.

Karim Benzema and Luka Modric are also not included in the 30-man shortlist, meaning a first-time winner is guaranteed.

Real Madrid pair Vinicius Jr and Jude Bellingham are amongst the favourites after helping Los Blancos to win the Champions League, LaLiga and the Spanish Super Cup last season.

Manchester City’s Rodri is also a strong contender for the iconic award after winning the Premier League for a fourth time with the Cityzens and helping Spain to Euro 2024 glory on the international stage.
