BBC Breakfast underwent another hosting shake-up this morning as regular presenter Naga Munchetty went ‘missing’ from screens and was replaced by Nina Warhurst. 

It comes after the BBC recently revealed that Naga made £25,000 in the month of June on top of her usual salary for presenting the breakfast show.

Nina updated the nation on the latest headlines[/caption]

Naga, 49, and Charlie Stayt, 62, usually team up to present BBC Breakfast from Thursday through to Saturday. 

However, she was nowhere to be seen this morning when a familiar face, Nina, 43, stepped up to help give the nation the latest news headlines. 

She delivered news on a number of topics, including sharing the latest on the allegations against the late Harrod’s owner Mohamed Al Fayed who has been accused of sexual assault by more that 20 female former employees.

It’s unclear why Naga wasn’t on BBC Breakfast this morning, but the show is no stranger to hosting shake-ups as presenters regularly swap in for each other.

Nina usually appears on BBC Breakfast as a business and consumer affairs reporter, but it’s not the first time she’s had to step up to co-present the morning news show. 

Recently she stepped in twice within two weeks to cover Sally Nugent earlier this month. Sally, 53, usually hosts the programme with John Kay, 54, on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. 

While Naga was missed by fans, many viewers were happy to see Nina get a chance to present. 

“Absolute delight to see the lovely Nina Warhurst reading the main news,” one fan gushed on X, formerly Twitter.

“So lovely to see you rising in the broadcasting ranks, Nina. You are absolutely my favourite presenter,” praised another.

Naga’s absence comes after the BBC revealed how much the breakfast star made on top of her annual £345,000 salary, which makes her one of the broadcaster’s highest-earning presenters.

She has previously spoken about how she works hard for her salary and has to be in the BBC Breakfast studio by 4.50am.

Presenters are also allowed to pick up extra earnings by being hired at after-dinner speeches, hosting Q&A sessions for firms, and handing out gongs at corporate bashes.

Staff disclose their extra earnings to BBC bosses and the amounts are published by the corporation under transparency rules.

And the latest BBC External Events Register has shown that Naga was paid between £5,000 and £10,000 for hosting a Veuve Cliquot awards ceremony in London on 13 June.

On June 16, she was paid up to £5,000 for hosting an event for an organisation called Stardust.

Naga also picked up between £5,000 and £10,000 for being an interviewer for software firm NICE Systems on 25 June.

After that disappointing home defeat to Nottingham Forest, Liverpool have scored eight goals in two games to get back on track.

A 3-0 win over Bournemouth in the league last week was followed up by a thumping 5-1 win over West Ham in the Carabao Cup in midweek.

It wasn’t quite as smooth as the score suggests, having gone a goal down to an OG early on.

And until Mo Salah’s 74th minute strike to make it 3-1 and Edson Alvarez’s red card shortly after, it was a tie in the balance. Cody Gakpo’s late double added some gloss to the score.

Nevertheless, it’s been a strong start from Arne Slot’s men, with every game outside that Forest one being a win by at least two goals.

With Manchester City kicking off earlier in the day, Liverpool will know whether or not a chance has opened up to go top, going into the weekend a point behind.

For Wolves, they have just the one win to their name this season – a 2-0 win over Championship side Burnley in the cup.

They actually go into the weekend BOTTOM of the table with just a point in their tally.

Frustratingly for them, they’ve led the last two league games against Aston Villa and Newcastle, only to capitulate late on and lose both.

PLANS for Eurostar trains to stop at another UK station have been brought forward again – after previously being scrapped.

Brits heading to Europe via the international train service can currently only board from London St Pancras station in the UK.

However the high-speed train service – that then goes on to France, Belgium and the Netherlands – could potentially stop at Stratford International station as part of a proposal.

Currently, Stratford International only offers journeys to UK train stations.

This includes London St Pancras International and Kings Cross, as well as services in Kent including Margate, Canterbury West and Ashford International.

It opened back in 2009 where there was already a Stratford Station, giving it the name Stratford International.

The name was given due to plans to connect passengers to Eurostar trains to Paris.

But the plans never came to fruition, even though Eurostar trains pass through Stratford International station every time they head to and depart from the UK.

It wasn’t made clear at the time why the plans were dropped, but it’s believed part of the reason was Eurostar was unconvinced stopping just seven minutes away from St Pancras was worth it.

The plans for Stratford to finally have international rail links were announced by Sir Stephen Timms, MP for East Ham, in his proposals for the area.

Timms said the case is growing for such a development due to how crowded St Pancras station can get at peak times.

He also hopes more people will travel by train to Paris, Brussels, and Amsterdam rather than flying, reducing the impact on climate change.

While the platforms are ready, new immigration posts would need to be set up at the Stratford station, which would be required to serve international passengers.

So it would be less about the cost of building it and more about the cost of running the operation and paying immigration staff.

The Department for Transport has said the decision is up to Eurostar, as the international operator.

Eurostar journeys previously stopped at Ashford International and Ebbsfeleet International in Kent.

But both stations have been closed since March 2020.

Eurostar cited financial factors as the reason for their closure, as well as the post-Brexit border situation.

The pandemic caused significant financial losses for Eurostar, and travel restrictions reduced passenger numbers to less than 1 percent of pre-pandemic levels.

If the international rail operator does agree to the proposal, there may be questions over why it’s stopping at two London stations rather than one of the other stations in Kent.

Ongoing maintenance works could see also the direct London to Amsterdam route scrapped for the entirety of 2025.

A number of the direct routes have already been suspended since June 15, due to renovations at Amsterdam’s main train station.

The UK to Disneyland direct service – which launched in 1996 – has also been scrapped, with Brits now having to change at Lille or Paris.
