Man Utd given embarrassing new nickname as fans spot bizarre Europa League coincidence after FC Twente draw

MANCHESTER UNITED have been handed a brutal new nickname following their 1-1 draw with FC Twente on Wednesday.

Erik ten Hag‘s side failed to make a winning start to their Europa League campaign as they were held by their Dutch opponents at Old Trafford.

The result leaves them 11th in the league phase of the new-look competition – which consists of 36 sides in the same division.

The top eight progress straight through to the last 16 of the Europa League, while ninth to 24th go into two-legged play-offs.

And Man Utd‘s position in the table after one of their eight fixtures coincidentally mirrors their Premier League spot.

They are also 11th in England’s top flight following two wins, one draw and two defeats from their opening five matches.

This led them to be labelled “11th FC” on social media.

To which one fan replied: “Consistency is key for Man Utd, so what you saying!? 😂

Another added: “11th in Europa League is a new level of low, even for Ten Hag loool 🤣😭.”

A third responded: “Erik Eleven Hag.”

And a fourth said: “Lol they have taken over Chelsea’s position of last season 😂.”

Ten Hag was uncharacteristically critical of his side following the draw to Twente.

He said: “When you have ambition then you have to perform, you have to prove that point.

“Today, especially in the second half, I think we were too easy-going, too complacent.

“We didn’t bring it over the line and, as a team, you have to deliver this.”

Man Utd’s other seven fixtures in the Europa League are against Porto, Fenerbahce, PAOK, Bodo/Glimt, Viktoria Plzen, Rangers and FCSB.

But next up they return to Premier League action when they host Tottenham on Sunday.

Man Utd player ratings vs FC Twente

MANCHESTER UNITED'S Europa League campaign got off to a less than ideal start with a miserable 1-1 draw against FC Twente at Old Trafford.

That result dealt a big blow to their chances of finishing in the top eight and avoiding two extra fixtures.

See how the players rated on an underwhelming night at Old Trafford.

Andre Onana – 6

Good save to push a free-kick from Sem Steijn to safety but might be disappointed to be beaten at the near post for Twente’s goal.

Diogo Dalot – 6

Early mistake near the corner flag could have been costly but he caused problems at the other end in build up to Christian Eriksen goal.

Harry Maguire – 6

Missed his tackle to put United on the back foot for the equaliser but almost won it late on with a header cleared off the line.

Lisandro Martinez – 7

Made several important clearances but one wild challenge on edge of his box could have proven costly.

Noussair Mazraoui – 6

New boy looks solid. Vital early tackle and another one later to stop Twente going in front.

Christian Eriksen – 7

Fourth successive start – and the veteran still looked sprightly. What a strike to give United the lead but then spoiled it with mistake for equaliser.

Manuel Ugarte – 6

A few good tackles from the new boy but might be disappointed not to clear his lines as Twente broke away for equaliser.

Marcus Rashford – 8

Much improved display in front of watching England interim boss Lee Carsley. Full of energy, a few tricks and a couple of dangerous crosses. More like his old self.

Bruno Fernandes – 6

Skipper had a hand in the opening goal and was so close to winning it with curler from the edge of the box.

Amad Diallo – 6

His pace was too much to handle for the visitors at times but not much of an end product this time and made way for Alejandro Garnacho midway through the second half.

Joshua Zirkzee – 5

A few good moments and forced a flying save from the visitors’ keeper after nice link up with Diogo Dalot – but then hooked for the fit-again Rasmus Hojlund.

So if you’re fed up with spending ages scrubbing away at paint, dirt and food mess, then we’ve got just the thing for you.

Luckily for you, fans of cleanfluencer Mrs Hinch have shared the cheap buy that they swear by to banish stains.

And if you’re on a budget and are strapped for cash, don’t worry, as you’ll be able to pick it up for just £1.20 from Tesco.

It comes after one woman took to social media to show off a huge pile of coloured clothes, covered in messy stains.

Alongside her post, on the private Facebook group, Mrs Hinch Made Me Do It, which has 231,400 members, Er Eds wrote: “Determined to tackle this huge pile of 100% cotton T-shirts covered with block paints from preschool…

“What gets this stuff out?”

Cleaning fans flocked to the comments to share their advice – with the most common response praising the effectiveness of Elbow Grease.

One person said: “Elbow Grease spray.”

Another added: “Elbow Grease spray. Brilliant stuff.”

Whilst a third commented: “Spray with Elbow Grease, it’s fantastic and it will get them clean.

“I use it for my uniform that has pen and blood stains and it gets that out!!”

If you fancy giving this a try, you can pick up a bottle of Elbow Grease from many supermarkets and high-street shops.

More hacks to get rid of harsh stains

  1. Baking Soda and Vinegar: Make a paste with baking soda and water. Apply to the stain and let it sit for 30 minutes. Rinse with vinegar and wash as usual.
  2. Lemon Juice and Salt: Squeeze lemon juice over the stain. Sprinkle salt generously. Rub the fabric together and leave it in the sun for an hour before washing.
  3. Hydrogen Peroxide and Dish Soap: Mix equal parts hydrogen peroxide and dish soap. Dab the mixture onto the stain. Let it sit for 10 minutes and then rinse.
  4. Milk for Ink Stains: Soak the stained area in milk. Leave it overnight. Rinse and wash the following day.
  5. White Vinegar for Grass Stains: Apply white vinegar directly to the grass stain. Let it soak for 15 minutes. Wash as usual.
  6. Cornflour for Grease Stains: Sprinkle cornflour onto the grease stain. Let it sit for 20 minutes to absorb the grease. Brush off the cornflour and wash the garment.
  7. Toothpaste for Collar Stains: Apply a small amount of non-gel toothpaste to the collar stain. Scrub gently with a toothbrush. Rinse and wash as usual.

You’ll find the bargain spray for as cheap as £1.20 from Tesco and £1.25 from The Range

The all-purpose degreaser spray is solvent free, vegan friendly and works to remove stains on fabrics, metals and plastics.

It’s hailed as ‘the only cleaner you’ll ever need’ and can even be used outdoors, and on vehicles too.

It’s formulated to remove grease and oil in all situations and is ideal for removing harsh marks from fabrics and porous materials.

It is tough enough to get rid of oil from a car engine, yet gentle enough to safely remove grease stains from delicate and coloured fabrics.

If using Elbow Grease on fabrics, simply spray the solution directly onto the stain, wash as usual and watch the stains disappear.

Who was Joe Weider? The Father of Bodybuilding and mentor to Arnold Schwarzenegger

JOE Weider was hailed by Arnold Schwarzenegger as the “Godfather of Fitness”.

He was also the mastermind behind some of bodybuilding’s biggest competitions and publications — here’s everything you need to know about the legend.

Who was Joe Weider?

Known as “The Father of Bodybuilding”, Joe Weider was a legendary figure who revolutionised the fitness industry.

He changed the understanding of the connection between exercise, nutrition and good health for a great many people.

Joe also played a pivotal role in shaping the career of probably the most famous bodybuilder of all time — Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Early life and career

Joe was born in Montreal, Canada, but his date of birth is somewhat of a mystery.

The man himself always gave his birth date as November 29, but the year sometimes changed, ranging from 1919 to 1923 — his official website states it as 1920.

According to reports, the year he was born is unknown because the records were lost in a fire.

Joe’s journey began as a skinny teenager who was bullied in his tough Montreal neighbourhood.

Inspired by a magazine called Strength, he crafted his own weights from scrap parts found in a railway yard and began an intense training regimen.

At just 17, Joe won his first bodybuilding contest, which marked the beginning of his influential career in the fitness world.

Soon after, he launched his first magazine, Your Physique, laying the foundation for his future media empire.

Contributions to bodybuilding

Joe’s impact on bodybuilding has been profound and far-reaching.

Competitions

In 1965, Joe created the Mr Olympia competition, which has become one of bodybuilding’s most prestigious events.

He later expanded the Olympia brand by introducing Ms Olympia in 1980, Fitness Olympia in 1995, and Figure Olympia in 2003.

Joe and his brother Ben founded the International Federation of Body Builders, which sponsored the Mr Universe and Mr Olympia contests, as well as a host of other competitions for men and women.

Ben was the federation’s president from 1946 to 2006, establishing affiliates in 170 countries.

Publications

Joe spread the message of health and fitness worldwide through magazines including Muscle & Fitness, Men’s Fitness and Flex, as well as the women’s publications Muscle & Fitness Hers, Shape, Fit pregnancy and Natural Health.

These periodicals became cornerstone resources for bodybuilding enthusiasts and fitness aficionados alike, with a peak readership of 25million.

Training and Equipment

“The Father of Bodybuilding” created training principles and equipment that revolutionised the world of bodybuilding, including:

  • The Weider Multi-Gym: One of the first all-in-one home gym systems, allowing users to perform multiple exercises using a single piece of equipment
  • Weight benches: Joe designed and manufactured various types of weight benches
  • Dumbbells and barbells: Of course he didn’t invent this type of equipment, but Joe produced and popularised high-quality free weights for us both at home and in the gym
  • Preacher curl bench: Joe’s specialised bench for bicep curls became a staple in gyms worldwide
  • Leg extension and leg curl machines: These isolation machines for quadriceps and hamstrings training were part of Joe’s equipment line
  • Cable crossover machines: These versatile machines allowing for a wide range of exercises were part of Weider’s equipment innovations.
  • Power racks and squat stands: Essential for heavy lifting and safety, these became standard in all gyms carrying Joe’s equipment

Weider principles

Joe Weider developed numerous training principles throughout his career.

Here are five of the most well-known and influential, which have made a significant impact on bodybuilding and fitness training:

  1. The Forced Reps Principle: This involves reaching failure on a set — as in doing reps until you can no longer continue — and then having a spotter help you complete a few extra repetitions, pushing the muscles beyond momentary failure to stimulate growth.
  2. The Pre-Exhaustion Principle: This method champions training single-joint or isolation exercises first in your workout, followed by multi-joint exercises, wit the goal being to exhaust the targeted muscle group before moving on to compound movements.
  3. The Muscle Confusion Principle: This involves constantly changing workout variables — such as the number of sets, reps, exercise choice, order, and rest periods — in an effort to prevent plateaus and continually challenge muscles.
  4. The Priority Principle: This principle suggests training lagging muscle groups first in your workout when you’re strongest and not yet fatigued, allowing for heavier weights and higher intensity.
  5. The Superspeed Principle: This advocates working as quickly and explosively as possible through the positive portion of a rep to build explosive power, speed, strength and muscle size.

These principles, as well as many others developed by Joe, have been widely adopted in bodybuilding and strength training community.

Mentor to Arnold Schwarzenegger

Perhaps Joe’s most famous protégé was Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Their relationship began when Joe discovered the young Austrian weightlifter at a European contest in 1967.

Recognising Arnie’s potential, Joe invited him to the United States to pursue his bodybuilding career.

He supported with his career development by relentlessly promoting Arnold, and helped him on his way to winning seven Mr Olympia titles.

Joe became somewhat of a father figure to Arnie, advising him on training, business ventures and personal matters.

He even helped launch the Austrian’s acting career, famously passing him off as a German Shakespearean actor to land him his first role in Hercules in New York (1969).

    Legacy and impact

Joe’s influence extends far beyond bodybuilding — he was a visionary who popularised the concept of fitness and helped make it accessible to the masses.

His “Be Somebody with a Body” slogan inspired countless individuals to pursue healthier lifestyles.

Joe’s publications and competitions played a crucial role in transforming bodybuilding from a niche subculture into a mainstream sport and lifestyle.

His emphasis on health, fitness and self-improvement has resonated with people all over the globe.

    Personal life and final years

Joe was married to Betty Weider for over 50 years.

He continued to be active in the fitness industry well into his later years, serving as a mentor and inspiration to many.

Joe passed away at the age of 93 on March 23, 2013, due to heart failure.

His death was mourned by many in the fitness community, with Arnold Schwarzenegger leading the tributes.

Arnold praised Joe as the “Godfather of Fitness” and credited him for making his dreams come true.

Man Utd fans fume ‘how can he be saying this?’ after Eriksen’s worrying live TV interview following FC Twente draw

MANCHESTER UNITED fans have been left fuming after Christian Eriksen’s worrying live TV interview.

The midfielder was questioned following the Red Devils’ 1-1 draw with Twente on Wednesday night.

The midfielder gave a worrying answer as he spoke following the 1-1 draw with Twente[/caption]

Eriksen had opened the scoring before the hosts were pegged back in the second half at Old Trafford.

Sam Lammers’ equaliser prevented United from making a winning start to their Europa League campaign.

After the match, Eriksen spoke to TNT Sports, explaining: “I think we are mostly disappointed as a team.

“I think, obviously we wanted more but in the end it was far from good enough.

“Being said also in the changing room they looked like they wanted it more than us and that can’t be right.”

The Dane continued: “Everyone is looking at themselves, for most.

“Everyone is a professional footballer, they know what to do and know what can’t happen.

“In a game like today, obviously we don’t lose but it feels like a loss and that is something that at home against Twente can’t happen.”

Supporters were left stunned on social media, with one commenting: “How can you be saying this?”

Another added: “They’ve said in the changing room that FC Twente wanted it more? Not good. Not good at all.”

A third fan also wrote: “To come out and say this is incredibly poor.”

Meanwhile, one more said: “I cannot believe a first-team United player has said that.”

Erik ten Hag was also criticised for his decision making during the disappointing draw against his former club.

His tactics also surprised Eriksen, who appeared shocked at being substituted during the final 15 minutes.

The 32-year-old had gone from hero to villain as his error gifted Lammers the chance to pull Twente level.

United are next in European action away to Porto next Thursday following the visit of Tottenham in the Premier League this weekend.

Man Utd fans say ‘peak Glazer insanity’ after finding out club failed in £83.5m transfer for Premier League flop

MANCHESTER UNITED fans have slammed the “peak insanity” from the Glazers after learning about their failed bid for a Barcelona flop.

The controversial owners made a £83.5million offer to the LaLiga giants for Ansu Fati in 2020 – when the winger was just 17 years old.

(Photo by Oli SCARFF / AFP) (Photo by OLI SCARFF/AFP via Getty Images)
The Glazer family has repeatedly come under fire for their failed recruitment plans

While Fati was coming through the ranks and burst onto the scene in Spain at the time, nothing warranted that price tag.

In his 2019-20 debut season, then 16-year-old Fati became Barca’s youngest goalscorer — a record since taken by Lamine Yamal.

He subsequently finished second in the 2020 Golden Boy award behind Erling Haaland – who arrived at Manchester City for £52million in 2022.

United’s summer approach for Fati came on the back of a third-place finish in the Premier League under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Barca were able to fend off interest and tie Fati down to a long-term deal with a mammoth £363m release clause.

When Lionel Messi left for Paris Saint-Germain in 2021, Fati took over the No10 shirt — but then a serious knee injury struck.

He was shipped out on a season-long loan to Prem side Brighton in 2023 – but failed to live up to their near £7million investment.

Fati has been absent with a foot injury so far this season and still has plenty of time to realise his immense potential.

United fans have lashed out at the Glazers after learning new details of the failed move from The Athletic.

One wrote: “Peak Glazer insanity”, before another commented: “That family were in a league of their own 😂.”

A second said: “Typical United willing to send a fortune on any mid player.”

A third added: “Obviously Ed Woodward and co would immediately overpay for such a player.”

While another noted: “WOW. We dodged a nuke.”

United left it late to do their business in 2020, sealing deadline day deals for Alex Telles, Edinson Cavani and Facundo Pellistri.

Amad also signed at the end of the window, though he didn’t join until January 2021.

Poor recruitment from the Glazer family has arguably been the greatest issue among fans throughout United’s post-Fergie era.

The transfer strategy was so bad that it, alongside “draining the club allegations”, sparked as series of protests outside Old Trafford from 2021 onwards.

United are guilty of over-spending on both unreliable and unproven players.

Just look at the millions spent on Paul Pogba, Angel di Maria, and more recently Antony and Harry Maguire.

In fact, Bruno Fernandes’ arrival in 2020 is perhaps the only transfer decision that United have got right in the last 10 years.

But the Red Devils have now placed their hopes in new minority stake co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who promised a different transfer strategy moving forward.

During a recent episode of her ITVBe series My Family & Me, former Towie star Ferne was seen taking Finty for a check up.

As she drove her daughters to the opticians for eye tests, the camera cut to Finty and Sunday in the back of the car.

And fans later took to social media after spotting a ‘problem’ with the straps on Finty’s car seat.

One wrote: “Please check the car seat straps!!”

Another said: “I’m not one to comment on posts but I thought exactly the same.”

Someone else said: “Was giving me anxiety!” And a fourth commented: “Surely Sunday should still be in a car seat as well.”

It comes after Ferne revealed she’s quitting her reality show after seven years.

She explained: “This decision hasn’t been an easy one but it feels like now is the right time for a change. I made this decision with my children (especially Sunday who has been on this full journey with me) in mind.

“They are my absolute priority and Sunday is now at an age where she is very much her own little person and I want her to go out there and take her own path.”

Last month The Sun revealed Ferne is the first celebrity to sign up for the next series of Dancing on Ice.

A source said: “It’s been a rough few years for Ferne but she has always been an ITV star, with her roots on Towie and then with her first steps into the mainstream on I’m A Celebrity in 2015.

“So Dancing on Ice will be a chance for her to knuckle down, work hard and win over the public.”
