Gary Neville tells Eddie Howe clear reason why he should QUIT Newcastle for ‘next step up’ in his career
GARY NEVILLE claims Eddie Howe should leave Newcastle to better himself.
And the Manchester United legend warned the Toon chief he might “lose” out – if he doesn’t depart soon.
Gary Neville has strong views on Eddie Howe’s future[/caption]Talk of “friction” between Howe and Newcastle‘s new sporting director Paul Mitchell has soared this week.
And Neville explains why he believes a swift exit is the easiest way for the former Bournemouth boss to make the “next step up”.
Howe has been linked with the England job since Gareth Southgate’s departure over the summer.
And although interim chief Lee Carsley is now strong favourite for the permanent job, it’s Howe, along with Pep Guardiola and Graham Potter, who comes next in the betting odds.
Neville reckons it’s time for the 46-year-old, who has ben in charge of Newcastle since 2021, to put himself first.
The ex-England defender told The Overlap’s Stick to Football podcast: “If I was Eddie Howe, I would go and look after myself
“You’ve had a great Premier League career, you’ve done a brilliant job.
“You’ve been fantastic at Newcastle. You’ve almost closed that chapter of their development.”

Nev added: “England are in a great position with players. You’re going to be working with amazing players.
“The next step up in Eddie’s career would be England.
“It’s difficult to get a Chelsea job, or Man United or Liverpool. He’ll know that.
“He might get Tottenham at some point in the future.
“My point is for Eddie, it’s difficult… to win with England, you’d have a chance of getting one of those top jobs.
“I think it’s his next step up, and I think he would take that job.
“He’s got to be proactive and not wait for other people to determine his outcome.”
Neville also suggested it might all go wrong for Howe unless he acts within the next few months – because of reported wrangling within St. James Park.
The Sky Sports pundit argued: “I think he’ll lose if this drags on until January or February.
“It ends for him but (by then) the England job has been given to someone else – and he’s lost both.”

SIRONA (1.50 Newmarket, nap)
She has been running well all season and can land a deserved win with Ryan Moore taking over. She went close in a decent Longchamp contest last time and was beaten less than four lengths in the Group 1 Falmouth in July. She sees out this mile strongly and trainer David Menuisier is in good form.
TIME LOCK (2.25 Newmarket, nb)
She won this race 12 months ago and can defend her crown. This daughter of Frankel came good in the second half of last season and she has had a nice break since a fair third in a Group 2 here in July. She handles any ground and looks hard to stop.
MILITARY ACADEMY (4.45 Newmarket, treble)
He is bred to be a star and showed plenty of that quality when cruising home by six lengths at Salisbury two weeks ago. John Gosden steps him up in grade here but there should be a lot more to come.

MAFS UK fans spot new romance on show – and it’s NOT between couple married to each other
MAFS UK fans think they’ve spotted a new romance on the show – and it’s not between a married coulple.
The series returned last week with 16 new people desperate to find love.
The E4 experts have matched them by their personalities, likes and dislikes.
But between eight couples there are only two that have yet to clash – Kristina and Kieran, and Ross and Sacha.
Polly and Adam have argued numerous times, after he confessed he wasn’t attracted to her and said he had asked the experts for a petite brunette.
During the first dinner party of the season, viewers spotted him eyeing up Lacey, who fits the bill.
Adam was chatting to Nathan about their honeymoons, and suddenly started quizzing him on his bride Lacey.
He said: “Was she in a bikini then?’ Little thong bikini?”
Moments later Lacey went to sit with the boys, including Ross.
Commenting as they watched the scenes, one viewer said: “When Lacey went to sit on the same sofa, Ross was making room between him and Nathan, but she chose to go and sit between Adam and Nathan.”
Another said: “Adam’s comments about Lacey, To her HUSBAND NO LESS.”
One more agreed with the comments and said: “Glad I’m not the only one who picked up on that!”
Polly couldn’t hold back the tears later on when they discussed their relationship at the commitment ceremony.
And Adam got a grilling from show experts Mel Schilling and Paul C Brunson.
Adam said: “It’s a tricky one. She obviously really fancies me and I want to say it back to her but I can’t. She’s not my usual type but I’m hers.
“Don’t get me wrong, she’s a good looking girl and we get on like a house on fire, but I just feel bad for her.”
The remark prompted smirks and raised eyebrows from the other couples around the room, and even Polly made a face.
Paul said: “It seems as if what you are actually doing is pushing yourself away from her.”
He added that Adam could “understand he’s in an unnatural experiment” and go “all in”.
