THE United States has launched a series of airstrikes on Iran-backed Houthi revels, hitting more than a dozen targets in Yemen.

Military aircraft and warships on Friday bombed extremist bases and weapons installations in five locations, only days after American warships were attacked in the Red Sea.

The joint op with the British military indicates a serious escalation, with the Middle East still waiting to see if Israel will strike against Iran for the rocket strikes earlier this week.

THE cast of First Take have jokes for Stephen A. Smith as he searches for a new contract with ESPN.

Molly Qerim and Chris “Mad Dog” Russo aren’t holding their punches while joking with Stephen A. about his negotiations.

Qerim started making fun of Stephen A. by claiming he runs the entire ESPN channel.

She said she would do anything to get her own channel on TV.

“I’ve never had my own channel, I’ve never had my own channel,” Stephen A. said.

“You have your own network!” Russo replied.

Stephen A. tried to defend himself and said he doesn’t run ESPN, but no one believed him.

“Oh I do not run it. I have bosses,” he said.

“Nonsense!” Russo yelled back.

Russo followed up by dropping a hilarious line about Stephen A. running the show that left Jeff Saturday in a fit of laughter.

“You can’t go to the bathroom around here without getting your approval first!” Russo said.

“I don’t wanna hear it! Nonsense!”

“We’re all just living in Stephen A’s world,” Qerim said in response.

Qerim and Russo’s jokes come as members of First Take have shared their displeasure with Stephen A. behind the scenes.

Many think that his quest for a $25 million per year contract could result in jobs being terminated for the budget.

“I mean, every time he does an interview, or a public appearance, or even just open his mouth it’s ‘me, me, me’ and ‘money, money, money’ all the damn time,” a member of the production team told The U.S. Sun.

“Every single day on our group chat on WhatsApp we have always tons of quotes and stuff about Stephen A. Smith, it’s very frustrating, as this is getting out of control.

“He is in a massive public relation campaign, to show to the world that he is the ‘best,’ the ‘top guy on TV and sports industry’ and it’s getting really pathetic to be honest with you.”

Like Qerim and Russo joked about, some members of the team find it hard to speak up against Stephen A.

“Many of us are fed up of this constant ‘Stephen A. Smith show,’ but we can’t say anything because we are scared that his requests will be reached and that could cost us our jobs as the money that he asks is massive, it’s insanity in my opinion,” the source continued.

“The negotiations are taking forever, but until a decision is made, and the new contract is signed, our situation is very unpredictable, as many of us are scared that they will have to cut cost on one side, the crew, the workers, to give him his money.

“It’s adding a lot to an already very, very tense situation, and there is no tranquility, no serenity at out work at the moment with every thing is going on. His requests add more to it, that is for sure.”

POPULAR Nestle chocolate Smarties Buttons have been discontinued.

Fans of the sweet treat say they’ve been hunting high and low for them and have been devastated by the axe.

The treat comprised a tasty combination of milk chocolate buttons with crunchy bits in, but maker Nestle said it now wants to focus on its core Smarties products.

The decision is a blow to fans, including one who took to social media last month to ask Nestle where they had gone.

He said: “Have the smarties buttons been discontinued? I love them but can never find them anymore and when I look at the links to purchase them every outlet is showing out of stock. Any idea where I can get some from?”

The product was unveiled in 2020 as a “reimagined” treat for choc-lovers with “special memories” of Smarties.

Since then it has earned rave reviews, including one on the Tesco website which enthused: “Opened up the pack and ended up eating them all on one go. Couldn’t stop!!”

Another added: “A nice way to expand on the Smarties brand for a more chocolatey smarties treat!”

At the time of their launch, Alberto Pisanello, brand manager for Smarties, said: “We know that Smarties hold special memories for so many people, and they are much loved for their bright colours, taste and texture.

“At the same time, consumers tell us they like their favourite brands to keep things fresh with exciting innovations and new varieties to try.”

He added they offered all the fun, colour and crunch of Smarties, enveloped in a smooth milk, white or orange-flavoured chocolate button.

Later a gold version was unveiled.

But this week manufacturer Nestle said: “We are waving goodbye to Smarties Buttons which we know has been a beloved product and we appreciate the support it has received.

“However, we have made the decision to discontinue it as we focus on our main Smarties products.

“Smarties fans may want to keep an eye out for the new Smarties Elf Treats giant tube, which is hitting stores now in time for Christmas.”

Smarties have a fascinatingly long history.

They were originally released in 1882 under the name Chocolate Beans, and were renamed Smarties Chocolate Beans in 1938.

Smarties went out of production in the war but resumed production in January 1946, though plain chocolate often had to be used in place of milk due to shortages.

The treats have remained popular, but are now no longer sold in their iconic cylindrical cardboard tubes, which came with a colourful plastic lid.

The packaging design changed to hexagonal in 2005, to keep the brand “fresh”, and the lid was replaced by a cardboard clip for environmental reasons.
