Sun-drenched paradise is paying workers £12,000 to move there if you agree to stay for two years – and Brits are welcome

A RURAL region in Spain is offering £12,000 to remote workers to help revitalise the area.

Digital nomads will soon be able to swap city life for the rolling hills of Ambroz Valley in Spain.

Dubbed “Live in Ambroz”, eligible applicants will receive financial support to cover housing, land, and other expenses, but only if they stay for two years.

Surrounded by mountains, the Ambroz Valley is made of lush green land, charming villages, and local artisan cuisine – and it’s only three hours from Madrid.

Its largest village, Hervás, has a population of just 3,907, while some municipalities have less than 200 residents, something the Spanish government is trying to change.

The new visa will give 200 applicants the chance to work remotely.

Minister of Economy, Employment and Digital Transformation Guillermo Santamaría said: “Attracting these high-skilled professionals with international incomes will have a very positive impact on our economy.

“They will boost local consumption, enrich regional talent and create significant networks and opportunities.”

Successful applicants under 30 and women will receive £8,300 if they choose to live in a town with less than 5,000 residents.

They will receive a further £4,000 after the second year.

Anyone above 30, or not a female, will receive slightly less, with an initial payment of £6,600 and a secondary payment of £3,300.

Those without a digital nomad visa would need to apply for this first and have it approved by Spanish authorities.

Prithwiraj Choudhury, a professor at Harvard Business School in Boston, told Fox News Digital: “The obvious benefits to the community are that when digital nomads come and spend time in that community, they spend consumption dollars.”

He added: “There are many people who like making connections in different communities, gaining experiences, life experiences from different places.”

Who can apply for the digital nomad grants?

To apply for the grants, the following requirements have to be fulfilled:

  • You can’t have lived in Extremadura within the last six months
  • Be a legal resident in Spain and have a foreign identity number
  • Work remotely in the tech industry
  • Non-EU nationals, like those from the UK, can also apply but must have already obtained Spain’s digital nomad visa.

The scheme is similar to the €1 homes found in parts of Italy.

Bargain-hungry foreigners have flocked to the country to snap up a property deal, with thousands of sales going through.

While some do sell for €1, on average houses sell for around €5,000 euros, although some are up to €20,000, according to Meredith Tabbone who bought one herself last year.

Not only that, but there are often fines for buyers who don’t complete their renovations in time.

Buyers are also often required to pay a €5,000 deposit, which they lose if they haven’t finished sprucing up their property within a set time.

Buyers are also advised to check on whether they are required to live in the property full time before buying, as some towns sell the houses on the condition of moving to the area, as well as working or starting a business there.

Premier League cult hero reveals ‘worst dressing room he’s been in’ and was left shocked at ‘resentment’ between players

PREMIER LEAGUE cult hero Chris Samba has spoken about the worst dressing room of his career.

The former defender played in the Prem for Blackburn between 2007 and 2012, before returning in 2013 for QPR.

And it was at Loftus Road where he experienced the worst dressing room of his career.

QPR endured a torrid season, finishing bottom of the Premier League with just four wins and 14 points off safety.

Samba, 40, explained the wage structure at the club built resentment between players, leading to an unhealthy environment.

He said: “That’s the worst dressing room I’ve been in, in football.

“I think the wages being structured was not really good.

“You have a player who is on £10,000 (a week) playing with one who is on £50,000. You have a player on £20,000 that plays with someone who is on £100,000.

“So there’s a lot of resentment, or if that player played better than the one who was on more money on that day, he feels some type of way.”

Harry Redknapp was in charge at the time and he revealed another former defender, Ryan Nelsen, described it as the worst dressing room he had ever been in.

Redknapp slammed the players’ attitude towards training and matches, and was unable to avoid relegation.

But the following year he was able to guide QPR back up at the first time of asking after managing to clear out some of the worst offenders.

Laurel recently had a steamy romp with someone unexpected[/caption]

Played by Charlotte Bellamy since 2002, Laurel has become a beloved character on the ITV soap.

Recently, she’s been facing significant turmoil, including a heart attack and the painful breakdown of her marriage to Jai Sharma (Chris Bisson).

Despite Jai’s determination to drag out their divorce, Laurel hasn’t let the collapse of their relationship hold her back.

In recent episodes, Laurel has thrown herself into organizing the village harvest festival alongside vicar Charles Anderson (Kevin Mathurin) and his mother Claudette (Flo Wilson).

Though Claudette caused a few bumps along the way, Laurel remained focused on the task at hand.

However, tensions between her and Charles boiled over, and what began as an argument quickly escalated into something much more unexpected.

Fans were left stunned when, after the heated row, Laurel and Charles shared a passionate kiss – which soon led to an unexpected tryst.

The jaw-dropping moment sent shockwaves through the fanbase.

Now some Emmerdale viewers believe the storyline is heading toward an even bigger twist – a surprise pregnancy for Laurel.

Fans fuelled speculation on internet forums, with one user confidently predicting: “Laurel will probably be pregnant in a couple of months.”

Another viewer chimed in: “Yes, I can see it too.”

One fan took the theory even further, suggesting: “I’m calling it now, Laurel ends up pregnant and she doesn’t know who the dad is. Probably be Charles’.”

Best soap affair love triangles

LOVE triangles are a fundamental part of soap-land, but which ones have become the most iconic?

EASTENDERS

Bradley/Stacey/Max: Stacey Slater began an affair with boyfriend Bradley Branning’s dad Max in 2007.

Despite their romps, Stacey still married Bradley, but their deceit came out in an iconic Christmas Day episode that year.

Grant/Sharon/Phil: Heading even further back in Walford history, EastEnders fans were gripped in the 90s as Sharon Watts had a one-night stand with her brother-in-law Phil Mitchell.

Sharon confided in best friend Michelle Fowler – not realising it was caught on tape – and her husband Grant eventually found out and played it in front of everyone at the Queen Vic.

Syed/Amira/Christian: Syed Masood was engaged to Amira before realising he had feelings for another man, Christian, which he confessed to him on his wedding day.

A devout Muslim, Syed refused to admit his true sexuality and went ahead and married Amira anyway, but when they returned, the two men started an affair before being caught in the act by Amira.

CORONATION STREET

Shelley/Peter/Lucy: Peter Barlow took the concept of a love triangle and ran with it in Coronation Street – extending it to bigamy.

He was in a relationship with Shelley Unwin but started dating Lucy Richards, and quickly married her after she fell pregnant with his son, Simon.

But it didn’t stop him also marrying Shelley, but he was eventually caught when Lucy turned up in Weatherfield and the two women confronted him.

Ken/Deidre/Mike: Back in 1982, Deirdre Barlow started sleeping with her husband’s nemesis Mike Baldwin in secret, before confessing all a year later.

When Mike turned up at the marital home, Deirdre was being throttled by her husband who then kicked her out, but years later they reconciled.

Maria/Aidan/Eva: In 2017, Aidan Connor started sleeping with girlfriend Eva Price’s best friend, Maria Connor.

Eva eventually found out and she decided to take revenge by faking a pregnancy, spending his money and planned to confront him on their wedding day.

But she had a change of heart when a remorseful Aidan confessed, and decided to marry him anyway, only for Maria to arrive and expose her fake pregnancy.

EMMERDALE

Ross/Debbie/Pete: Debbie Dingle found herself torn between two brothers, Ross and Pete Barton in 2015 in Emmerdale.

She eventually decided to marry Pete but yet again, a soap wedding day was ruined when the groom learned of his bride’s betrayal via a recording played at the wedding.

Chrissie/Robert/Aaron: Robert Sugden was married to Chrissie White and all seemed well – until he began a steamy affair with Aaron Dingle.

Robert’s ex Katie Sugden almost exposed the affair – but fell to her death before she had the chance.

However, a guilty Aaron eventually cracked and told Chrissie about the affair – after which she announced it to the whole pub.

Greedy daughter, 28, set up fake fundraiser for her dead mum’s funeral… then KEPT cash donated by more than 40 mourners

A GREEDY daughter set up a fake fundraiser for her dead mum’s funeral, then kept the donated cash for herself.

Danielle Kelly, 28, from Staffordshire, made a GoFundMe page for her mums funeral, weeks after she’d died.

Fraudster Danielle Kelly set up a Go Fund Me page for her mum's funeral - before pocketing the donations herself. The 28-year-old, from Stafford, spent the cash on 'rent, bills and living costs' instead of giving her loved-one a send-off. She then lied to her relatives about where the money had gone. Cannock Magistrates' Court heard Kelly's mum had died on May 9 last year and she created a fund-raising page on May 31 requesting money. On June 30 a woman made a ¿1,000 pledge to the account and her uncle also stumped up ¿1,000. But in mid August last year Kelly contacted the council to say she was struggling financially and she needed help with the funeral costs. The Go Fund Me Page had at that stage attracted ¿1,450 from 43 donors. And on September 1, Kelly spoke to the coroner's officer to ask to have a council funeral.
Kelly lied when her family asked where the money had gone

The fraudster bagged a total of £2,000 in cash.

And 43 donors contributed to her heartfelt fundraiser.

Kelly’s uncle even donated £1,000.

When her family asked where the money was going, she lied to them.

Instead of giving her mum a final send-off after she died in May last year, Stoke on Trent Live reports Kelly spent the money on “rent, bills and living costs”.

Prior to this desperate measure, Kelly told Derbyshire council she was experiencing money problems.

They agreed to pay for her mums funeral.

Prosecutor Sara Beddow said: “On September 22 it was confirmed she had made no contact with a funeral directors to pay for the funeral.

“It was paid for by Derbyshire Council.

“Enquiries with the bank confirmed her bank account was credited with £2,000 on June 30 last year. Her balance on August 3 was £134.

“She obtained £3,470 towards her mother’s funeral costs but did not use the money for its intended purpose and requested that the council pay for it instead.”

Kelly’s GoFundMe page earned her £1,450, however, in a statement to the police she admitted she received £2,000.

Claims have been made for compensation, including from the council.

But the cash is yet to be repaid.

In a magistrates court, Kelly plead guilty to fraud by false representation.

She was sentenced to 20 weeks in prison, suspended for two years, plus 15 days of rehab and 140 hours of unpaid work.

Kelly said: “I committed the offence due to the financial circumstances I was struggling with at the time.

“I feel really bad for doing so. I do regret what I did.”

District Judge Stephen Hayes who took the trial, said she should have been jailed immediately.

He said: “It is difficult to think of how you could have acted in a worse way than you did.

“Not only did you take advantage of the generosity of members of the public and close friends by way of a Go Fund Me Page but you also took the money from family members and outright lied to them about what the money had been spent on.”

“You should be thoroughly ashamed of your actions.

“There was a huge element of breach of trust, not just with family members but members of the public and friends you asked for donations from.

“You asked for donations over a significant period of time and even lied to the funeral staff who waited for you to tell them what you wanted to do for your own mother’s funeral.

He added: “I genuinely find it difficult to comprehend how you could behave in that fashion.”
