Simone Inzaghi ‘REJECTS’ Man Utd offer after Sir Jim Ratcliffe lined up Inter boss to replace Erik ten Hag immediately

MANCHESTER UNITED were turned down by Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi after lining him up as under-fire boss Erik ten Hag’s replacement.

Ten Hag, 54, has been enduring another turbulent campaign in charge of United, who are winless in their last four matches across all competitions.

The Dutchman suffered a miserable 3-0 loss to Tottenham at Old Trafford, right after a shocking 1-1 home draw with minnows Twente in the Europa League and a goalless tie at Crystal Palace.

And things got even worse on Thursday at Porto where the Red Devils surrendered a 2-0 lead and drew 3-3 thanks to a last-gasp equaliser by Harry Maguire, while Bruno Fernandes was sent off for the second time in just four days.

Ten Hag’s position is becoming increasingly untenable and transfer insider Tancredi Palmeri revealed the Manchester giants’ chief Sir Jim Ratcliffe is holding “frantic talks” regarding the managerial position.

Palmeri claims United could move for a new head coach during the upcoming international break, which starts on Monday.

And the Premier League giants offered the top job to Inzaghi, who won the Serie A last season and led Inter to the Champions League final the previous term.

The Italian tactician was asked to take over with immediate effect but he declined.

Palmeri tweeted: “Frantic talks underway at Manchester United to decide whether to proceed with a manager change during the break.

“Manchester United in recent days offered the bench to Simone Inzaghi to take over immediately during the break but Inzaghi declined”.

Inzaghi’s Inter are currently fourth in the Serie A table with only two points separating them from leaders Napoli.

The Nerazzurri won three and only lost one of their first six league matches.

The Italian champions are also impressing in the Champions League as they drew 0-0 at Manchester City – in an unofficial rematch after losing the 2023 final – and destroyed Red Star Belgrade 4-0.

Nine managers Man Utd considered before keeping Erik ten Hag

ERIK TEN HAG appears to be safe as Man Utd manager, but the Dutchman edged dangerously close to the sack.

Here are nine managers Red Devils chiefs are reported to have considered for the job and what allegedly happened with each.

Gareth Southgate

Enjoys plenty of support among Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Ineos chiefs but made clear he wouldn’t talk to any clubs until after Euro 2024. There is yet to be any suggestion that contact was made with the England boss.

Kieran McKenna

Talks were opened with McKenna’s representatives before the FA Cup final, but the former Man Utd coach opted to sign a new deal with Ipswich after Ten Hag’s Wembley win.

Roberto De Zerbi

Allegedly sounded out before the FA Cup final with salary expectations discussed. But Ineos chiefs concluded ex-Brighton boss was not the right fit for the project.

Thomas Frank

Brentford boss met Man Utd representatives the day before the FA Cup final. The Dane also dined with Ratcliffe, Roy Hodgson and Frank Lampard at the launch of a new Ineos car in February.

Marco Silva

Fulham boss reportedly met Man Utd representatives face-to-face two days before the FA Cup final, around the same time as Ten Hag was conducting his press conference.

Mauricio Pochettino

Fell out of Man Utd’s thinking in the first week of June, despite being a favourite of Sir Alex Ferguson.

Thomas Tuchel

Made a very strong impression and came across well during a Monaco meeting. Personal terms were discussed before the ex-Chelsea and Bayern Munich boss decided to step back from the process.

Ruben Amorim

Sporting boss was discussed by the Man Utd hierarchy but did not make the final reckoning.

Roberto Martinez

Portugal manager was considered in the early stages.

Satellite pics reveal Iranian tankers FLEEING ‘oil island’ where ‘90% of exports flow’ ahead of Israeli revenge strikes

IRANIAN tankers have fled a key oil island where 90 per cent of the country’s exports flow ahead of Israeli strikes, satellite pictures show.

The Islamic Republic is bracing itself for revenge from Israel’s military after the Ayatollah sent a barrage of 180 rockets at the country on Tuesday.

New satellite images released by hedge fund and news outlet Hunterbrook revealed the anchorage is now empty for the first time since November.

Kharg Island, about 20 miles west of Iran in the Persian Gulf, hosts an oil terminal which 90 per cent of Iran’s exports pass through.

Iran’s oil infrastructure is likely to be a target of Israeli retaliation strikes after US President Joe Biden didn’t rule it out yesterday.

The 81-year-old said: “We’re in discussion of that. I think that would be a little… anyway.”

Axios cited Israeli officials “point to Iran’s oil facilities as a likely target, but some say targeted assassinations and taking out Iran’s air defence systems are also possibilities.”

Energy analysts have predicted a four or five per cent jump in crude oil prices if Israel were to strike the terminal.

Iran has pledged that if Israel responds, it will also respond in-turn.

Ayatollah Khamenei sat with a rifle by his side as he led prayers in Tehran today and sent a chilling message to Israel.

The Islamic Republic’s leader backed Tuesday’s rocket strike against Israel describing the action as “brilliant”.

He said: “We are neither procrastinating nor hasting in fulfilling our duty [to destroy Israel].”

Khamenei also said that Israel “cannot seriously harm” Hezbollah as the IDF continues its ground invasion of Lebanon to cripple the group.

Meanwhile, Israel’s Defence Minister Yoav Gallant pledged “more surprises in store” for Hezbollah after the assassination of Nasrallah.

And some of them, he claimed, have already been carried out.

He said: “Hezbollah is receiving very severe blows, one after the other.”

It comes as…

Israel has continued its campaign of assassinations to decapitate Hezbollah even after troops crossed the border.

The IDF today pounded Beirut trying to kills Nasrallah’s cousin and closest aide who was rumoured to be the group’s next leader.

Israel has also taken out senior commanders of divisions within the group as it has sought it degrade their capabilities.

Gollant said: “[Hezbollah’s] missile and rocket division suffered a very heavy blow. A significant part was destroyed as a result of a high-quality and precise operation.

“Command and control headquarters, communications, the entire leadership of [the elite Radwan Force], and in fact the entire second and third tiers of command below Nasrallah were eliminated.”

150 Brits get out

By Nick Parker, Foreign Editor

MORE than 150 Britons have left Beirut on the first UK Government-chartered plane.

There are concerns about how long the Lebanese capital’s airport will remain open as Israel continues its offensive against Hezbollah.

The Foreign Office said a limited number of additional flights had been chartered.

Lebanon’s Middle East Airlines also continues to operate its scheduled services.

Foreign Secretary David Lammy said: “I urge all British nationals still in Lebanon to register with the FCDO and leave immediately.”

Little-known way Universal Credit households can get a one-off payment from DWP of up to £812 to help pay the bills

CHRISTMAS is an expensive season and if you’re on benefits it can be really tough financially.

However there is help available in the form of a Budgeting Advance, which pays up to £812 for any one-off expense.

PA
A Budgeting Advance could help pay for one-off expenses[/caption]

You’re eligible to claim if you’re on certain benefits, including Universal Credit and while you do have to repay it, there are no interest charges on the money you borrow.

This means it’s more cost-efficient than a bank loan or buying on your credit card and could come in handy if your fridge freezer or oven fails in the run-up to the big day.

Payments are deducted directly from your benefit and spread over two years, with repayment amounts agreed when your application is accepted.

Who is eligible for a Budgeting Advance?

If you receive Universal Credit, Income Support, Employment and Support Allowance, Pension Credit, or Jobseeker’s Allowance, then you could be eligible for a Budgeting Advance.

Your earnings must not have been above £2,600 (£3,600 for couples) in the past six months. Additionally you need to have been in receipt of your benefit for at least six months.

If you already have a Budgeting Advance you have yet to pay back, then you cannot take out a new loan.

You must also confirm you are able to afford the repayments as they will be taken directly from your benefits.

A Budgeting Advance can be used for a number of unexpected costs, including:

  • A broken appliance such as a fridge or cooker
  • Repairs to your home
  • Moving costs
  • Essential items
  • Maternity expenses
  • Work-related costs such as travel, or buying a uniform or tools
  • Funeral expenses

How much can you borrow?

You can borrow up to £812 if you have children, £464 if you’re a couple and up to £348 if you’re single.

The minimum amount you can borrow is £100, however the actual amount agreed depends on how much you need.

Loans also depend on how much capital – money, investment, savings and some types of property – you have.

If you have more than £1,000 then the Budgeting Advance will be reduced by the amount over £1,000.

So for example if you have £1,300 the amount you could borrow would be cut by £300.

How to repay the Budgeting Advance

Repayments will be taken directly from your future Universal Credit or other benefit payments and you will be told how much they will be when your application is accepted.

You have up to two years to repay the advance and you’re still liable for repayments even if you no longer receive benefits.

If you start work you will be expected to repay the loan through your salary.

How to apply for a Budgeting Advance

You can apply for the Budgeting Allowance through your Universal Credit account, via the Universal Credit helpline on 0800 328 5644, or through your local Jobcentre.

You will be asked if you have any existing debt as the advisor will need to make sure you can afford the repayments and you will also be asked about any savings.

You should receive a decision on your application the same day.

Are you missing out on benefits?

YOU can use a benefits calculator to help check that you are not missing out on money you are entitled to

Charity Turn2Us’ benefits calculator works out what you could get.

Entitledto’s free calculator determines whether you qualify for various benefits, tax credit and Universal Credit.

MoneySavingExpert.com and charity StepChange both have benefits tools powered by Entitledto’s data.

You can use Policy in Practice’s calculator to determine which benefits you could receive and how much cash you’ll have left over each month after paying for housing costs.

Your exact entitlement will only be clear when you make a claim, but calculators can indicate what you might be eligible for.

There is no appeal if you’re turned down, but Citizen Advice says you can ask for your application to be looked at again.

If you can show your circumstances have changed this could help.

What can I do if I’m not eligible?

If you haven’t received your first Universal Credit payment and you need help with bills you can apply for an Advance Payment.

This can be up to 100% of your estimated first payment and you have up to two years to pay it back.

For claims due to a change in circumstances the repayment term is generally six months.

Repayments will be deducted from your first benefit payment then taken from subsequent payments until the advance is cleared.

You can apply for the Advance Payment through your Universal Credit account or through your Jobcentre Plus work coach. The Universal Credit helpline can also assist with your application.

The Advance Payment is a loan and you will be liable to repay it even if you stop claiming benefits, for example through your wages.

Repayments can be delayed in certain cases for up to a month for change of circumstance applications and up to three months for new claimants.

If you fail to keep up with repayments the Department of Work and Pensions could take them at source from your wages or contract a debt collection agency to collect the money.

Are there any alternative kinds of support available?

Cost of living support can help with utility bills, housing costs and NHS prescriptions.

Citizens Advice can also help with information on benefits you might be entitled to as well as help with budgeting and managing bills.
