I was a BBC News presenter but quit for a different job away from fame after nearly 3 decades and Tom Hanks’ advice
BBC News star Rebecca Jones has spoken out and discussed the real reason she opted to ditch TV fame in favour of a brand new career.
The star was a prominent face of the BBC having covered a series of historical news events.
Rebecca Jones has opened up on quitting the BBC[/caption] She left the high-pressured role to become a Barrecore instructor[/caption]Rebecca found herself leading the coverage of the war in Ukraine, the London Bridge terror attack as well as being part of the team to cover the Queen‘s death.
In total, the mother-of-one spent 28 years working for the broadcaster and in the world of journalism but ultimately decided to quit the role for good just over a year ago in August 2023.
Her decision came amid a health scare in 2021 and deciding that she needed to find work that was less high-pressured.
In 2021, Rebecca found herself hospitalised after experiencing shooting pains and dizziness whilst at work.
Rebecca spent the night in A&E, where after being told she was suffering from burnout, was advised to stay off work for a month.
Working as both a news presenter and the show’s Art Correspondent at the time, Rebecca admitted that the health scare was a turning point and a wake-up call.
She said in The Times: “I also come from a generation of women who felt that to survive in the workplace you needed to plough on and deliver.
“But I recognised I was at a turning point.
“It gradually dawned on me that things had to change, not only for my health, but also for my happiness.”
She decided that she was committing to quitting her job but spent 18 months ‘marinading’ over her choices and what she wanted to do next.
It was during this time that Rebecca found the world of Barrecore – a workout that combines ballet, pilates and yoga.
She first said of finding the exercise: “Undoubtedly it helped my sanity and stamina while I was working in the hectic environment of the newsroom.”
Rebecca confessed that it was her “exasperated” husband that pushed her to look into becoming an instructor of Barrecore.
Amid worries of taking an intense pay-cut, she decided it was the right time given that her son had recently finished university and she felt under less financial pressures.
Having turned 58, she qualified as an instructor and now teaches close to 14 classes per week.
Tom Hanks helped to offer up advice to Rebecca as she made the life-changing decision to quit the Beeb[/caption]Speaking about how the decision has drastically improved her health, Rebecca said: “I’m no longer at the beck and call of the news desk and I am in control of what I do.
“I sleep better, there are no more heart palpitations and after years in pain, my stiff neck and frozen shoulder have disappeared.”
Hollywood Star Connection
In an unusual move, one of the first people that found out about Rebecca’s desire to leave the BBC was acting superstar Tom Hanks.
Rebecca first met Tom when she interviewed him for the BBC Radio 4 Today programme.
She first confided in him and then spoke to him about the decision once again months later when she hosted his book launch at the Empire Theatre in Liverpool.
Reaffirming that he had listened and invested into what Rebecca had told him, Tom wrote in her very own signed book: “Good luck on that new adventure.
“Closer and closer to your status as a creature of a renaissance.”

David Beckham reveals challenging moment before posting family photo at wife Victoria’s Paris fashion show
DAVID Beckham revealed he faced a very challenging moment before posting a sweet family photo at wife Victoria’s Paris fashion show.
The fashion designer, 50, was joined by husband David Beckham, who looked dapper in a black tailored suit and tie.

Also in the snap are Harper’s older brothers Romeo, 22, and Cruz.
Romeo wore a classic black t-shirt, matching trousers and sunglasses as he was seen putting a brotherly arm around his little sibling while Cruz later ditched his suit jacket as he showed off his retro outfit in the sweet picture.
But David admitted it took some effort to make sure the picture was just right for all of them.
The doting father captioned the snap: “On the way to mum’s show and trying to get a picture was a little challenging. ‘Dad before you post it we all have to approve’.”
He added: “Love you all can’t wait to see you Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz Beckham.
“We love you mum and are so proud of you Victoria Beckham“.
The family were spotted leaving the hotel as they went to watch Victoria’s presentation of her Spring/Summer 2025 line in Paris.
Victoria and David’s eldest son Brooklyn, 25, and his wife Nicola Peltz, 29, were seen leaving the hotel together wearing twinned outfits.
The aspiring chef opted for a classic black tux while Nicola matched in a stylish shirt halterneck top with a black bow tie and trousers.
Earlier in the day, fashion icon Victoria was seen arriving at her Paris Fashion Week show wearing a black suit from her collection.
The Spice Girls singer then shared a clip of herself walking down a staircase following another successful show at PFW.
She wrote: “What an amazing night! Thank you so much to my incredible team, I love you all. Kisses from Paris xx Victoria.”
In another video, David could be seen sitting in the front row and beaming with pride for his wife.
Yesterday, Victoria was spotted going braless in a plunging suit ahead of her show.
Earlier this week Romeo was seen leaving a party with American photographer Gray Sorrenti.
Gray is the daughter of world-renowned fashion photographer Mario Sorrenti.
It comes after we told last month how Romeo had signed up to a celebrity dating app after his split from girlfriend Mia Regan.
This week The Sun revealed Posh and Becks are facing up to a year of misery at their £31m London home.
Their new next-door neighbours have had their grand renovation plans approved by the council.
The adjoining property – worth over £40m – is undergoing a major overhaul with the new owner transforming all five floors of the house, which boasts six bedrooms and an underground swimming pool.

iPhone owners have been warned that they face a “huge sacrifice” to access the platform’s soon-to-be-released AI features.
Users will have to give up one of the most sought-after aspects of their devices to use Apple Intelligence, which is set to be rolled out over the coming months.
iPhone users will have to make a significant trade-off to access the latest AI features, experts have warned[/caption]Apple will send the new tech out to compatible handsets by the end of this year.
Expected features include a smarter Siri, AI spellchecker and photo Clean Up tool.
Some iOS fans can already access the exclusive software with an early update.
The roll-out is then scheduled to end with the release of a “massive” Siri reconfiguration in January 2025.
However, experts are now warning that the revolutionary functions will carry a major trade-off.
In its “Introduction to Apple Intelligence on iPhone” note, the company outlined some of the requirements to download iOS 18.1, which will carry Apple AI from next month.
This revealed that Apple has “roped off” at least 4GB of storage space to house the AI – about the same as would be used by downloading a full-length film in HD.
That’s on top of the roughly 10GB that the operating system alone will occupy.
The latest iPhones have total storage of at least 128GB, but this will be effectively reduced to 110GB off the bat if the user wants to enjoy the AI software.
Additionally, the note went on to suggest that the amount of storage required would increase in the future as the system becomes more complex.
It explained: “Storage requirements for on-device Apple Intelligence models will increase as more features roll out.”
And it’s not just the software you have to worry about as Apple Intelligence also has a minimum hardware standard for use.
Even if you can access iOS 18.1, you will have to have one of the iPhone 16 models or the iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max to use it.
But it’s good news for iPad and Mac users as they aren’t left out in the cold.
Apple Intelligence will be rolled out to these devices as part of the Sequoia 15.1 update.
It comes after SunTech’s assistant editor Jamie Harris shared his review of the iPhone 16 after it was unveiled earlier this month.
