Helle Trevino is a professional bodybuilder known for her physique and competitive spirit.

Born on January 22, 1978, in Denmark, she has made a significant mark in the world of bodybuilding, particularly in the Women’s Bodybuilding and Fitness Divisions.

Early life and education

Growing up on a farm instilled in her a strong work ethic and an appreciation for nature, both of which would later influence her approach to fitness and bodybuilding.

From a young age, Helle showed a keen interest in physical activity.

She began gymnastics at just three years old.

As she grew, her passion for sports expanded to include a diverse array of activities.

Throughout her childhood, she engaged in ballroom dancing, swimming, track and field, shot put, martial arts, horse riding, boxing, biking, ballet and yoga.

Academically, Helle majored in English and German during her college years.

After completing her degree, Helle transitioned into the fitness field, where she pursued numerous qualifications in nutrition and training.

Road to bodybuilding

Her journey into bodybuilding began at the age of 17 when a friend invited her to a local powerlifting competition.

Motivated by the incredible achievements of bodybuilders, particularly Kim Chizevsky-Nicholls, she decided to embark on her bodybuilding career.

Training at that local gym for five years, Helle dedicated herself to the sport, training seven days a week.

Under the guidance of a fellow bodybuilder at her gym, she adopted a structured diet plan that complemented her training regimen.

At the start of her journey, Helle weighed 128 lb (58 kg).

Within just a year, she gained 20 lb (9.1 kg) of muscle, realizing she had the potential to achieve even more.

Eager to advance her career, she attended the Danish Championships in Copenhagen, where she noticed a strong presence of competitors from a particular gym.

Inspired, she packed her bags and moved to Copenhagen, joining that gym to train among the best.

After seven months of intense training, she made her competitive debut at the 1998 Danish Championships, where she won her first title.

Later that year, she also clinched the overall and heavyweight titles at the Scandinavian Championships.

Her rapid ascent in the sport continued as she represented Denmark at the World Championships in Australia in 1999.

Professional breakthrough

In 2003, Helle made history by becoming the first professional female bodybuilder from Denmark since Lisser Frost-Larsen, who last competed in 1984.

Helle’s pro debut at the Jan Tana Classic was nothing short of spectacular; she not only won the heavyweight class but also took home the overall title.

Her impressive performance garnered attention, and she placed fifth in the heavyweights at the prestigious Ms Olympia shortly after.

From 2011 onwards, Helle focused on building her personal training business while continuing her competitive career.

In 2011, she won the FIBO Pro Show and placed 11th at the Ms Olympia.

The following year, she secured a 12th-place finish at the Ms Olympia competition.

In 2012, Helle relocated to California to train at the iconic Gold’s Gym in Venice.

Helle’s continued dedication paid off in 2015 when she won her third pro show at the Chicago Pro, qualifying her for the Rising Phoenix World Championships.

During the 2015 event, with notable competitors like Iris Kyle retiring and Alina Popa sidelined by injuries, Helle surpassed seasoned professionals such as Yaxeni Oriquen-Garcia and Debi Laszewski to secure second place.

She continued to showcase her talent, placing fourth at the 2016 Rising Phoenix World Championships.

Climbing to the top

In 2017, Helle achieved a significant milestone by winning her first Ms Rising Phoenix title.

After a thrilling tie with Sheila Bleck, Helle was declared the champion based on the final round scores.

However, her reign was challenged in 2018 when Alina Popa dethroned her, resulting in a fifth-place finish at the Rising Phoenix World Championships.

The following year, Helle bounced back by taking first place at the Tampa Pro and winning her second Ms Rising Phoenix title in 2019, defeating former champion Margaret Martin.

In 2020, Helle faced another challenge as she was dethroned by rising star Andrea Shaw at the Rising Phoenix World Championships, yet she still achieved a commendable third place at the Ms Olympia.

The competition continued to heat up in 2021, with Helle placing second at both the Rising Phoenix World Championships and Ms Olympia.

Despite sustaining an injury in 2022, Helle remained a contender, securing a third-place finish at the Ms Olympia.

After taking a break in 2023, she announced her plans to return to competition in 2024, with David DeMesquita as her coach.

She qualified for the 2024 Ms Olympia competition, which is taking place in Las Vegas, Nevada on October 11, 2024.
