7 days agoWorld LeaksComments Off on France boss stunned as World Cup winner and 137-cap legend shockingly RETIRES from international duty
FRANCE star Antoine Griezmann has announced his retirement from international football at the age of 33.
The Atletico Madrid player made 137 appearances for his country, scoring 44 goals in that time.
Griezmann has been a key member of the France squad under manager Didier Deschamps since making his debut under him in 2014.
The LaLiga winger’s social media statement read: “It is with a heart full of memories that I close this chapter of my life.
“Thank you for this magnificent tricolour adventure and see you soon.
“After 10 incredible years marked by challenges, successes and unforgettable moments, it is time for me to turn a page and make way for the new generation.
“Wearing this jersey was an honour and a privilege.”
Deschamps said: “We’ve had a long discussion about his retirement recently.
“Since his debut in the France team 10 years ago we’ve had a relationship based on trust and frankness.
“Even if his club career is not over, Antoine will remain a monument of French football, one of the greatest players in its history.
“It was often said that he was my favourite. We indeed had built a very strong relationship, that will remain intact.
“From the bottom of my heart, thank you for everything, Grizou.”
Griezmann helped his nation win the 2018 World Cup.
His Man-of-the-match performance put France 2-1 ahead with a penalty before a 4-2 victory over Croatia in Russia six years ago.
The end of his World Cup adventure was marked by another final at Qatar 2022, playing 71 minutes of France’s eventual shootout defeat to Argentina.
He was announced as the nation’s new vice-captain following the retirement of Hugo Lloris, with Kylian Mbappe named skipper in March 2023.
He featured in all six games of Euro 2024, before crashing out in the semi-finals to winners Spain.
He started for France in a 3-1 Nations League defeat by Italy in September, before his last appearance came as a sub in a 2-0 win against Belgium three days later.
Griezmann has revealed his decision prior to the next international break in October when France play Israel and Belgium in the Nations League.
He also won the 2021 Nations League with his country.
The forward was top scorer at Euro 2016 with six goals as hosts France finished runners-up, losing to Portugal in the final.

EAMONN Holmes didn’t mince his words as he admitted he was “proud” to throw former This Morning anchor Phillip Schofield “under the bus”
The Northern Irish broadcaster, who himself fronted Friday episodes of the ITV daytime series alongside ex wife Ruth Langsford, 64, let rip on his GB News programme on Monday.
It comes ahead of the former This Morning anchor’s return to TV on Channel 5’s Cast Away[/caption]
It is his first return to the small screen after he told how he was “stepping down” from his ITV daytime gig, when his affair with the runner was exposed.
He was fronting the episode with co-host and pal Isabel Webster, who said Phil suggested he was “thrown under the bus” by his colleagues.
Eamonn was quick to interject: “Well if I’m one of the people who threw him under the bus I am very proud to have done it and protected children.
“People who are under age.”
Eamonn then said the instance was being made out to be “one situation” and added: “I think he [Phil] is where he deserves to be.”
Isabel read out a statement from Phil which had said his conduct wasn’t illegal but was ill-advised.
Eamonn, whipping off his glasses, was eager to get stuck in further.
Referring to Phil he bluntly said: “This man is addicted to fame.
“Absolutely addicted to fame.”
After the chat rumbled on he said: “I know people in junior positions in television and if I thought they were being taken advantage of in such a way then somebody needs to stand up and say ‘people like him shouldn’t exist and shouldn’t be allowed.'”

Yet off-screen, Eamonn has also had his fair share of struggles of late.
A source close to Phil has today told us: “Phil finds it ironic that Eamonn is slamming him and went for him after his affair with a younger man emerged… and now he’s been exposed for having a relationship with a younger woman.”
We exclusively reported his comments from the new documentary as he discussed how he was forced to leave This Morning after 22 years – and hinted at a lack of support from his long-time friend and co-host Holly, 43.
He says in the segment: “I miss parts of being on TV, certainly. I miss most of it, if I’m honest, I miss most of it.
“But there are bits that I really, really, really don’t miss.
“You learn a lot about people, I don’t miss that.”

Today, the 37-year-old gave viewers an insight into her family life by sharing a video of the gender reveal letting off a confetti cannon.
Joined by husband Kerr Okan and their two-year-old son Otis, Storm was delighted to discover she was expecting a baby girl.
Storm said: “Kerr was told the gender of the baby by the hospital and wanted to surprise me and Otis.
“We are delighted. We would have been happy with either a boy or a girl but now we feel lucky because we will have one of each and Otis will have a little sister.”
“When I was pregnant with Otis, I surprised Kerr with a blue cannon so it was nice for him to surprise me this time round.”
Storm announced the pregnancy on Tuesday via Instagram, sharing a family photo with Kerr and Otis alongside a baby scan and a bun in their oven.
Later on, she spoke about her pregnancy on The Jeremy Vine Show, receiving applause from the studio as she displayed her baby bump.
The Glasgow-native revealed she’s 14 weeks along, noting that she had her scan just yesterday and was excited to show it on air.
When asked how her second pregnancy compares to her first, she noted she has been “less sick, not completely free of it, but less sick,” while feeling “more emotional, bigger, and more uncomfortable.”
Storm and Kerr got engaged in 2020 when Kerr proposed with a vintage cluster ring.
They went on to tie the knot in a private ceremony in Loch Lomond in 2021 – with Carol Smillie as their celebrant – and they welcomed Otis in 2022.

A VILE grooming gang who raped vulnerable schoolgirls have been jailed after a brave victim came forward when she saw a BBC show about abuse.
Anthony Anantharajah, 35, Abalzaq Salih, 31, and Saif Kahya, 32, targeted four teenage girls in Plymouth, Devon.

The predators plied the girls, who were aged between 14 and 16, with alcohol before raping them at house parties.
They also gave them cash to buy booze and drugs so they could exploit them.
Their horrific crimes only came to light when one of the brave victims watched BBC drama Three Girls about the Rochdale grooming scandal and spoke to police.
Anantharajah, Salih and Kahya have now been jailed for a total of 44 years after being convicted of a string of sex offences.
Plymouth Crown Court heard the victims were abused at three house parties held at the fiends’ addresses in 2017.
Prosecutor Dan Pawson-Pounds said: “These events had one thing in common – they were designed by these defendants and others to exploit vulnerable young girls; to get them away from whatever family structures they had, give them money, drink, and drugs, and then to sexually assault them when their defences were down.”
One victim woke up on Anantharajah’s bed to find the predator raping her.
On another occasion, a number of the victims were given drink and drugs at a house party held by Salih.
One girl, who was aged under 15, was attacked by the monster after she passed out.
Another victim was raped by Salih after she confronted him for trying to sexually assault her friend.
The fourth victim, who was 16 at the time, was raped by Kahya in his bedroom at the same house party.
She came forward in January 2022 and told officers she had been raped when she watched the BBC drama Three Girls.
The court was told the programme had “triggered her” – and led to the arrest of all three men under an investigation codenamed Operation Garcia.
In a victim impact statement, the girl said: “I didn’t speak for a few days after I was raped. I now know that this is because I was in shock.
“I felt terrified, numb and I wasn’t able to process what had happened. I didn’t know what to say. I knew I had been raped but couldn’t remember the finer details because I had got so drunk on the alcohol I was given.
“I wanted to end my life, so I didn’t have to face each day and live with what happened.”
One of the youngest girls, who was just 14 when she was attacked by Salih, told how she went from the “happy, smiley” child she was to someone who was “angry, secretive and broken”.
She added: “I was sad all the time and I could see no way out. I was hiding the truth about the worst thing that could happen to me – to be raped by a stranger, an older man, at a flat where I was trying to care for two of my friends who had passed out due to the alcohol the two men had given them.”
Another victim, who was also 14 at the time of the horror, told the court her “childhood innocence” had been taken away.
While the fourth girl added: “The impact on my life remains huge. I will never recover from what Anthony did to me.
“I will never forget this face, his smell, my fear, and feelings of disgust, my loss of respect for myself and my body.”
The predators denied having any sexual contact with the victims and instead accused the girls of making it up but jurors saw through their lies.
Anantharajah, from London, was sentenced to 13 years in prison with seven on licence after being found guilty of one count of rape of a female aged 16 or over.
Salih, from Plymouth, was handed 19 years in jail for two counts of rape of a female aged 15 or under.
While Kahya, from Liverpool, was sentenced to 12 years after being convicted of one count of rape of a female aged 16 or over.
Plymouth Commander, Temporary Chief Superintendent Scott Bradley, said: “I want to start by praising the immense bravery of each one of the survivors in this case.
“They have all been through a harrowing ordeal yet have still managed to find the courage to support the investigation, and criminal justice proceedings. Without them, we would not have been able to achieve this outcome today.
“I hope the sentencing can bring some sense of justice for all involved in this case, as they strive to move on with their lives.”
