Cole Palmer steals spotlight with four-goal masterclass but Dream Team bosses left conflicted over future prospects

COLE PALMER (£6.2m) took another step up the ladder towards superstardom at the weekend when he scored four goals in one half against Brighton.

Chelsea’s talisman produced a breathtaking performance that featured two goals from open play, a trademark penalty, and a sensational free-kick for a return of 34 Dream Team points in one fell swoop.

Four goals, Cole? Four? That’s insane…[/caption]

Needless to say, the 22-year-old is comfortably Gameweek 6’s top performer at the time of writing and one of his rivals will have to produce something special in midweek to dethrone him.

Suddenly, Palmer is ranked third among all Dream Team assets with a season total of 79 points to his name.

Erling Haaland (£9.2m) and Mohamed Salah (£7.5m) are the two players above him on 97 and 83 points respectively.

What’s notable is that 67% of Palmer’s points have come from just two outings; the other coming against Wolves in Gameweek 2 when he banked 19 points via a goal and three assists.

The England international now has six goals and four assists to his name in 2024/25 and he’s perhaps unlucky not to have more goal contributions to his name as only Bukayo Saka (£6.4m) has created more big chances for his team-mates so far this campaign.

Palmer provided a lorry-load of points for his backers on Saturday[/caption]

Palmer has rapidly become one of Premier League’s top stars, not to mention a Dream Team favourite.

He currently features in 52.8% of teams; only Haaland boasts a higher ownership (71.9%).

And the former Manchester City youngster will inevitably increase in popularity ahead of Gameweek 7 after his magnificent display against the Seagulls.

However, gaffers should take everything into account when weighing up Palmer’s future prospects.

On the plus side, he’s evidently a prodigious talent capable of massive double-digit hauls – Saturday wasn’t even the first time he scored four goals in a game for the Blues!

On the other hand, Palmer’s viability was partially limited when he was omitted from Chelsea’s Conference League squad.

Enzo Maresca explained that the decision was designed to manage the midfielder’s workload, telling Chelsea’s website: “We are trying to protect the players and give them the right minutes at the right moment.”

This means Palmer won’t play against Gent later this week or any other European fixture until at least the knockout stage, when he may be added to the squad if the West London side qualify.

Dream Team bosses should endeavour to select plenty of players active in the European competitions, particularly during the busy continental period from now until mid-December.

Palmer won’t feature in the Conference League until the knockout phase at the earliest[/caption]

Additionally, Chelsea’s domestic fixtures are far from favourable across the next few Gameweeks.

Maresca’s side are set to face Nottingham Forest, Liverpool, Newcastle, Manchester United and Arsenal in their next five league games.

Of course, Palmer has the ability to earn returns against any opponent but a lack of European commitments combined with a relatively tricky run of league fixtures is something of a spanner in the works.

No doubt many Dream Team bosses will feel conflicted this week but they will have to decide whether they prioritise a player’s individual ability (of which Palmer has plenty) or the schedule.

My neighbours hate my ‘skyscraper monstrosity’ home but I don’t care – council is on my side so they all need to shut up

SEETHING neighbours have hit out against a homeowner for erecting a skyscraper-style extension in their area.

Locals slammed builder Danny Dare after Bolton council approved the proposal for the Horwich gaff – with one dubbing it a “monstrosity”.

Neighbours have complained the dormer will encroach on their privacy[/caption] a before and after photo of a brick house

But builder Danny laughed off the complaints, claiming that concerns from residents over an invasion of their privacy are absurd.

He told The Sun: “I’m a builder myself and build dormers all the time.

“I’ve never had any problems until I wanted to build one on my home.

“But at the end of day, the council have approved it. So I don’t see what the problem is.

“I can’t understand what people are complaining about.

“They say it’s a privacy issue and it’ll mean we can see through their windows. But that’s not the case.”

Another resident defended Danny’s extension – arguing the add-on will make little difference to privacy concerns.

One woman said: “I know it’s upset some of my neighbours but I’ve got no objections to it at all.

“I can’t see there’s any loss of privacy because the top windows of the house already overlook our gardens anyway.

“And, as far I’m concerned, the house is some distance away from my home.”

Despite being shockingly compared to a hotel, Danny’s dormer is only 9.4m wide and will give his two-storey property just one other level.

However, Walter Gent, 64, who lives in a nearby bungalow, said he objected to the plans due to four criteria: the loss of privacy, it not keeping with the character of the road, over-development and the impact on parking.

He said: “I feel let down by Bolton Council.

“Initially, the plans were turned down by Horwich Council but they then passed into to Bolton, who took a complete different view.

What are my rights?

BY Morgan Johnson

IF you’re not happy with your neighbour’s extension plans, there are some things you can do.

Once plans are submitted to the council, locals should be given a period where they can object or comment on the plans.

The plans for anything happening near you should be public once an application is submitted – so you can check on your local council website for these.

If you and a couple of neighbours complain for valid reasons, the council may decided to decline the homeowner the right to go ahead with their plans.

Valid reasons include:

  • Loss of privacy
  • The project would overshadow your home – blocking natural light
  • Impact on the local area
  • Traffic and parking
  • Impact on neighbours
  • Impact on trees and local wildlife

However, if plans have been approved there is little you can do.

You can challenge the decision but again, would need to have a valid reason for doing so with proof.

“They approved it because other dormers had been built in the area – but how can they compare it to ones built three streets away.

“I’ve already had to put up a 14ft high hedge in my back garden, but the dormer will mean less privacy because it will overlook my house and bedroom.

“It’ll feel like were living next to a hotel or a skyscraper.”

Councillor Ryan Bamforth echoed that sentiment, and hit out against the council for greenlighting the extension.

He said: “Another concerning aspect was the home-owner’s decision to start building and then seek retrospective planning permission.

“I was extremely upset it was granted.

“If councillors roll over to builders and developers every time there will be constant development because they will know retrospective applications will be approved.

“They should have the moral fibre to stand up for what is right and wrong.”

MasterChef finalist stuns fans by admitting she got together with her husband when he was her teacher & it got him fired

A MASTERCHEF finalist has left fans stunned after admitting to meeting her husband while he was her teacher.

Hope Batchelor, 31, appeared on this year’s season of MasterChef UK and made it all the way to the final three before being voted out.

Hope landed a place in the quarter finals

Since then she has gone on to create a following on social media sharing recipes – but it’s not her brownies causing a stir online.

While celebrating a friend’s wedding she looked back on her own relationship and how it all began – back in school.

Hope revealed she and her husband, Lawrence, have a 12-year age gap adding: “So the reason there’s a bit of an age gap between Lawrence and I is because I met him whilst he was my teacher.

“Don’t worry it’s not an illegal situation, he was 30 I was 19, I was in college, it’s a legal situation.”

While it might have been legal, the college weren’t happy with the news and Lawrence lost his job.

Her partner was working at a Fashion College Hope attended and she admitted, ‘It was pretty simple, I fancied Lawrence, and I said to my friends I think I’m going to marry this guy.’

As her graphic design teacher Lawrence would help out with some of Hope’s projects so when she found him on Facebook she decided to shoot her shot.

Claiming her emails were down she messaged him on Facebook to ask for some help, and the rest is history.

“He called my bluff straight away,” Hope admitted, “he responded saying emails aren’t working, I’ve heard that before, he answered the question I had and he asked me another question.”

Hope knew she was in when he continued the conversation and shortly after the couple began dating.

They tried their best to keep it under wraps but eventually got caught out when they were discussing holidays together.

Hope was telling her friends the places she planned to visit with her boyfriend and Lawrence did the same with his colleagues – but it seemed one of the students realised they were going to the same spots and decided to let the college know their suspicions.

She recalled he was taken into a meeting at work on her 20th birthday and told to admit the relationship and leave or they would investigate and fire him in a ‘bad way’.

Lawrence decided to leave quietly instead but Hope says it was the best thing that could have happened.

Relationships in numbers: The most common way to meet someone

YouGov looked into how Brits find love, and your best bet is at work or through friends according to the data.

  • Through work – 18%
  • Through friends – 18%
  • While out and about – 15%
  • Other – 11%
  • Online dating platform – 7%
  • University or higher education – 6%
  • Dating app – 6%
  • School – 5%
  • Shared hobby – 5%
  • Family – 3%
  • Face to face at an event – 0%

“That leads us on to where we are now, 12 years on we’re still together, and it was probably the best decision that we’ve ever made,” revealed Hope.

The clip posted to her TikTok account @toastwithhope went viral with over 289k views and 11k likes.

People were quick to share their thoughts in the comments section.

One person wrote: “Hope, you are fully of surprises, thanks for sharing. You and Lawrence were obviously destined for each other.”

Another commented: “Blimey!!!! Wasn’t expecting that.”

“Omg that was not what I expected,” penned a third.

Meanwhile a fourth said: “I love a love story. I’m glad it all worked out for you both.”

“A crazy story, but when you know you know!” claimed a fifth.

Someone else added: “Ooo that was juicy! Love that you’ve stayed together. Love is love.”

Anthony Joshua brutally told his career is ‘OVER’ as boxing promoter suggests final ‘good’ fight after Dubois KO

AJ hit the canvas FOUR times on the way to his fifth-round knockout loss against Dubois in front of a British-record 98,000 fans.

Joshua has talked down retirement in the aftermath and is already being lined up for a rematch.

But Hall of Famer Arum – a promoter across seven decades – sees no way back for AJ other than a fight with Deontay Wilder.

He told FightHub: “No, you don’t have an off night getting the s*** kicked out of you that way.

“I just think AJ has been through a lot of wars. And I think it’s over for him as well as over for Wilder.

“Maybe they can fight each other, that’d be good.”

Wilder is coming off two defeats against Joseph Parker, 32, and Zhilei Zhang, 41.

The American, 38, has not officially hung up the gloves and his coach Malik Scott spoke out to talk down retirement.

Joshua, 34, meanwhile met with promoter Eddie Hearn and Saudi boxing supremo Turki Alalshikh just days after his loss to Dubois, 27.

And Hearn revealed all parties are on board for a potential rematch – targeted for February.

He said talkSPORT: “Rematch clauses come in many different forms.

“We have a fight with Riyadh Season. One of our options is to fight Daniel Dubois again, and our contract is with them.

“His Excellency [Turki Alalshikh] will deal with Frank and Daniel and make that fight happen. The terms will have to be agreed with them.

“We have already agreed our terms, we have the option to rematch with Dubois.

“Our meetings with His Excellency, he wants the rematch. AJ will always want the rematch.

“Daniel wants the rematch too it’s the biggest fight for him and they will fancy it.

“It is a case of going away and talking about, do we go straight into the rematch? And when will it be?

“It was a heavy night at the office, we aren’t going back to fight in 10-12 weeks, he needs his rest and time to recover.”
