What does he want and why is he in Weatherfield

Gail Platt (Helen Worth) arrives back on the street as Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) arrives back from Turkey.

Gail reveals to a stunned Eileen that she and Jesse met years back in Thailand.

As Jesse insists he needed to check Gail was okay, she ushers him into No.8.

The Platt’s are baffled with Jesse’s arrival.

Whilst Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson) is discussing Damon Hay’s (Ciaran Griffiths) hidden money with Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard), Jesse states that he recognises him from Sarah’s wedding pictures.

After meeting Jesse in the cafe, Shona Platt (Julia Goulding) urges Sarah and David to sit down and talk to him.

Will they agree?

Jesse catches up with Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) over a pint and opens up on why he’s really here.

Jesse actor, John Thomson, will make a huge comeback to the long-running ITV serial drama as part of Helen Worth’s exit storyline.

Bosses at Coronation Street were forced to hastily rewrite scenes after Sean Wilson stepped back for “personal reasons.”

He was meant to come back onto the cobbles to reprise the role of Martin Platt, who was widely thought to be the most successful of Gail’s five marriages.

John will once again appear on the street in his place as Jesse, 14 years after his last appearance and a lot of unanswered questions.

During his first stint, the character was known for his relationship with Eileen.

Best soap affair love triangles

LOVE triangles are a fundamental part of soap-land, but which ones have become the most iconic?

EASTENDERS

Bradley/Stacey/Max: Stacey Slater began an affair with boyfriend Bradley Branning’s dad Max in 2007.

Despite their romps, Stacey still married Bradley, but their deceit came out in an iconic Christmas Day episode that year.

Grant/Sharon/Phil: Heading even further back in Walford history, EastEnders fans were gripped in the 90s as Sharon Watts had a one-night stand with her brother-in-law Phil Mitchell.

Sharon confided in best friend Michelle Fowler – not realising it was caught on tape – and her husband Grant eventually found out and played it in front of everyone at the Queen Vic.

Syed/Amira/Christian: Syed Masood was engaged to Amira before realising he had feelings for another man, Christian, which he confessed to him on his wedding day.

A devout Muslim, Syed refused to admit his true sexuality and went ahead and married Amira anyway, but when they returned, the two men started an affair before being caught in the act by Amira.

CORONATION STREET

Shelley/Peter/Lucy: Peter Barlow took the concept of a love triangle and ran with it in Coronation Street – extending it to bigamy.

He was in a relationship with Shelley Unwin but started dating Lucy Richards, and quickly married her after she fell pregnant with his son, Simon.

But it didn’t stop him also marrying Shelley, but he was eventually caught when Lucy turned up in Weatherfield and the two women confronted him.

Ken/Deidre/Mike: Back in 1982, Deirdre Barlow started sleeping with her husband’s nemesis Mike Baldwin in secret, before confessing all a year later.

When Mike turned up at the marital home, Deirdre was being throttled by her husband who then kicked her out, but years later they reconciled.

Maria/Aidan/Eva: In 2017, Aidan Connor started sleeping with girlfriend Eva Price’s best friend, Maria Connor.

Eva eventually found out and she decided to take revenge by faking a pregnancy, spending his money and planned to confront him on their wedding day.

But she had a change of heart when a remorseful Aidan confessed, and decided to marry him anyway, only for Maria to arrive and expose her fake pregnancy.

EMMERDALE

Ross/Debbie/Pete: Debbie Dingle found herself torn between two brothers, Ross and Pete Barton in 2015 in Emmerdale.

She eventually decided to marry Pete but yet again, a soap wedding day was ruined when the groom learned of his bride’s betrayal via a recording played at the wedding.

Chrissie/Robert/Aaron: Robert Sugden was married to Chrissie White and all seemed well – until he began a steamy affair with Aaron Dingle.

Robert’s ex Katie Sugden almost exposed the affair – but fell to her death before she had the chance.

However, a guilty Aaron eventually cracked and told Chrissie about the affair – after which she announced it to the whole pub.

Now the actor has revealed what’s in store for the duo and it’s clear there might be tension ahead.

“He’s not really prepared to see Eileen after things ended so badly between them,” he explained.

“When Jesse left he’d been spreading his bets over two sisters, which is slightly morally bankrupt to say the least.

“He’s changed dramatically because he’s very remorseful for that behaviour, so for him to think that Eileen would even contemplate having him back after he made a play for her sister is not on his radar.”

He added: “I don’t think the new Jesse could possibly entertain that there would ever be anything with Eileen again because of his actions in the past.”

As it turns out, Jesse and Gail were reintroduced to each other when she was on her travels in Thailand.

And he’s now come back to Weatherfield once he received word that Bethany suffered some medical complications.

John admitted: “He met Gail in Thailand, he’s heard about Bethany and he’s very worried.

“So on his travels he’s returned via Weatherfield to check on Gail, because they’ve stayed in touch via email.

“He’s heard all about Bethany and he’s very concerned for Gail.

Jesse is set to roll back into town just as his ex Eileen returns to Weatherfied.

She will be absolutely stunned to see him, but even more shocked when she discovers he has not come to see her, and is looking for her neighbour and nemesis Gai.

And the surprises keep coming when Gail and Jesse reveal that they met each other when Gail was travelling a few years ago and have kept in touch.

But is there more to Gail and Jesse’s friendship than meets the eye?

And is he being entirely truthful about his reasons for getting back in touch?

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.

Cindy (Michelle Collins) is left reeling to see David back in Albert Square and keeps out of sight.

Cindy tells her ex husband George Knight (Colin Salmon) about why David being back has her rattled.

He advises her to front it out.

After meeting with Reiss Colwell (Jonny Freeman), David is soon distracted when he gets a shocking blast from his past.

He is stunned to see Cindy is very much alive and standing in front of him.

A shocked David has a lot of questions for Cindy as they catch up on the past two decades.

Meanwhile, Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) is horrified when Bianca Jackson (Pasty Palmer) reveals that David is back in Walford.

Later, Ian goes to see Anna Knight (Molly Rainford) to make amends and tells her that he’s got a big plan for Cindy.

Soon, Cindy is forced to juggle several different tricky situations.

Whilst David and Bianca have some deep conversations.

Elsewhere, Junior Knight (Micah Balfour) starts to talk to George about his mystery woman, as his feelings for Cindy weigh heavy on his heart.

George is intrigued as Junior admits that what started as a fling has developed into something much more serious, and he believes the woman feels the same way.

George gives him some fatherly advice, not knowing he’s talking about Cindy. Will he figure out it’s her?

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7:30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

EastEnders stars who QUIT

MICHELLE Collins has seen her second EastEnders stint boost her bank balance. Yet what stars have quit this year?

The Sun exclusively reported how Michelle, 62, was down to £20,000 in her company accounts when she agreed to a shock back-from-the-dead return to Albert Square last year.

Her character, Cindy Beale, was presumed dead off-camera in 1998.

Yet what about the 2024 exits?

Earlier this summer, loyal soap fans appeared to note how Stevie Mitchell had “quit” the long-running series.

It came after Alan Ford enjoyed just six-months on-screen.

Bobby Beale actor Clay Milner Russell also left this year after five years in Walford.

Fans also feared Martin Fowler actor James Bye would “quit out of boredom” over recent storylines.

Additionally, a host of stars have quit the BBC soap for Hollywood fame.

One of the most successful stars to come from the BBC One soap is Rob Kazinsky.

He played Stacey Slater’s brother Sean Slater from 2006 to 2009, he has starred in Hollywood blockbusters Pacific Rim and Captain Marvel.

Ben Hardy, who quit EastEnders as Bobby Beale almost a decade ago, went on to break Hollywood the following year, when he starred as Archangel in X-Men: Apocalypse.

Since then, he has played Roger Taylor in Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, and he starred in Michael Bay’s Netflix movie 6 Underground.

Michelle Ryan played Zoe Slater until 2005.

She starred as the lead in short-lived American series Bionic Woman from 2007 to 2008.

Your thermostat is in the wrong place in your home and it’s adding £100s to bills

IF your thermostat is in the wrong place you could end up paying hundreds of pounds more in energy bills.

As temperatures drop and you begin turning on the heating, it’s vital to ensure that your thermostat is not driving up your energy costs because it’s misjudging the temperature of your home.

a person is adjusting the temperature on a thermostat
Getty
The placement of your thermostat can make a big difference to your energy bills[/caption]

Thermostats are used to control how your heating and monitor when your home has reached your desired temperature.

But if the thermostat is placed in the wrong place, it could be reporting inaccurate temperatures for the rest of the house, meaning your heating is working harder than necessary.

Heating the home typically makes up half of a UK household’s energy costs in winter, so has a big impact on your bills.

Joanna Flowers, service and repair engineer at British Gas, explained: “When deciding where to place your thermostat, the main thing is to ensure you don’t place it somewhere colder or warmer than the centre of your home.

“If you place your thermostat in the heart of your home – we often suggest internal hallways or living rooms – it will make sure you get your desired temperature and save on bills by only using as much heating as you need.”

With energy costs remaining stubbornly high and the winter fuel payment having been axed for some pensioners, it’s particularly important to make sure your heating is being accurately controlled.

The Energy Saving Trust (EST) has advised fitting thermostatic radiator valves, as well as a programmer and a room thermostat, to help optimise your central heating system.

The organisation says together the controls could reduce your energy bills by £95 annually.

When it comes to your thermostat the EST stressed the importance of ensuring it is in the right spot and set to the lowest comfortable temperature to minimise costs.

A spokesperson said: “Room thermostats need a free flow of air to sense the temperature, so they should not be blocked by curtains or furniture, or placed near heat sources that could give them false readings.

“If you’re feeling warm enough, lowering your thermostat from 22°C to 21°C can save you £80 annually. Reducing it further from 21°C to 18°C can save you £230 each year.

“The World Health Organisation states that the most comfortable temperature range for most people is between 18°C and 21°C.”

Where should I place my thermostat?

Placing your thermostat in the right place will make sure your home is heated effectively.

British Gas’ Flowers advised: “We suggest an interior wall as external walls are often much cooler, so the thermostat will tell the boiler to warm the house up when it might not need to.

“It should be at medium height because heat rises and you should avoid it being too close to radiators, cookers, direct sunlight or near draughts.”

A checklist for where to install your thermostat includes an interior wall, in a frequently used room near the centre of your home at a height of about 5ft.

The heating experts at Bestheating.com advise avoiding the following areas to make sure accurate temperature readings:

  • In direct sunlight
  • In the kitchen
  • Near windows or doors
  • In the hallway
  • Above air vents
  • Above a radiator

Any area that experiences sudden changes in temperatures, such as kitchens, bathrooms or draughty spots, could lead to inaccurate readings.

Similarly, you should avoid the coldest or warmest rooms in your house.

What should I do if I can’t move my thermostat?

Check if your thermostat is wired into your wall, if not you should be able to unscrew it and move it easily.

If so, you may need to upgrade to a wireless thermostat that will give you much more control over your heating.

A new smart thermostat can cost between £120 to £220, according to Checkatrade.com.

But this doesn’t factor in the thermostat’s installation cost, which is usually around £30 to £80 depending on how long it takes.

How else can I cut my heating bills?

If you turn your boiler’s flow temperature down as well as any thermostatic radiator valves in some rooms – you could save around £180 annually on your energy bills.

A couple managed to cut £400 off their EDF Energy bill by turning off their immersion heater.

Topping up loft insulation and switching to a smart meter can also bring a household further savings.

Reducing draughts and heat loss will also help to cut your heating costs so grab some draught excluders and consider increasing your insulation.

It’s also important to consider which rooms in your home need heating.

You won’t be using each one 24/7 so make sure the heating is off in any rooms that aren’t occupied.

There is also a list of other common boiler problems we’ve rounded up that could be pumping up your bills.

A noisy boiler could also indicate that your water pressure is low or there’s a pump failure.

If you spot rust on your boiler then it could mean you’re paying more than you need to on using your appliance.

Although rust itself does not cause issues, it could be a sign that there is a leak – which indicates there is a problem with your boiler.

It can also upset the temperature balance in your boiler, making it run less efficiently and ramping up costs.

What energy bill help is available?

THERE'S a number of different ways to get help paying your energy bills if you're struggling to get by.

If you fall into debt, you can always approach your supplier to see if they can put you on a repayment plan before putting you on a prepayment meter.

This involves paying off what you owe in instalments over a set period.

If your supplier offers you a repayment plan you don’t think you can afford, speak to them again to see if you can negotiate a better deal.

Several energy firms have grant schemes available to customers struggling to cover their bills.

But eligibility criteria varies depending on the supplier and the amount you can get depends on your financial circumstances.

For example, British Gas or Scottish Gas customers struggling to pay their energy bills can get grants worth up to £2,000.

British Gas also offers help via its British Gas Energy Trust and Individuals Family Fund.

You don’t need to be a British Gas customer to apply for the second fund.

EDF, E.ON, Octopus Energy and Scottish Power all offer grants to struggling customers too.

Thousands of vulnerable households are missing out on extra help and protections by not signing up to the Priority Services Register (PSR).

The service helps support vulnerable households, such as those who are elderly or ill, and some of the perks include being given advance warning of blackouts, free gas safety checks and extra support if you’re struggling.

Get in touch with your energy firm to see if you can apply.

‘I’ve smashed a few cues’ reveals Ronnie O’Sullivan as he lifts lid on lashing out in ‘tough’ snooker moments

RONNIE O’SULLIVAN revealed he has smashed a few cues in his career as he shared how he dealt with tough moments in his career.

The seven-time world champion has experienced plenty of highs and lows in his 32-year career.

Ronnie O’Sullivan has smashed cues out of frustration[/caption]

He is the most decorated snooker player of all time but there have been times when O’Sullivan has hinted at stepping away from the game

The Rocket has spoken plenty about his battles with addiction in the past and the help he has received from sports psychologist Steve Peters.

He went through a dramatic breakdown during the World Snooker Championship signal in 2022, which he went on to win to equal Stephen Hendry’s record.

O’Sullivan, 48, was able to overcome his anxiety to beat Mark Selby on that occasion but there have been times when he would go to more dramatic lengths to deal with tough moments.

He told talkSPORT: “I’ve smashed a few cues in frustration but when I worked with Steve Peters he helped me work out what was going on so I’m better at handling it.

“But I only enjoy snooker when I’m playing well. If I’m not playing well then I don’t like it but I still feel like I have to find a way to get through those tough moments.

“Some players they don’t care if they are playing well or bad, they love it they get through it and I just think I don’t know how they do it.

“I’m a bit bipolar like that. If I play well I’m buzzing, if I’m playing terrible I’m on the floor, I’m not a happy person.

CASINO SPECIAL – BEST CASINO WELCOME OFFERS

“It isn’t just about winning or losing, I wish it was. For me it’s about performance. If I get beat and feel like I’ve played good game I come off and think ‘oh I really enjoyed that,’ so it’s strange really.”

Just this month O’Sullivan was scathing of his own game as he told fans to give up hope of him winning the World Snooker Championship in March.

After crashing out of the English Open he told SunSport: “I’m absolutely useless, that’s why.

“Forget about the Worlds. I’m not even bothered to be honest with you, if I’m going to play rubbish I might as well play left-handed.

“Play left-handed and enjoy it, but be useless, or play right-handed, be useless and not enjoy it.

“I haven’t got long, I’m not going to deny it, I’m not playing well enough, there’s no point in even worrying about it – I’ve just accepted it now which is quite a nice place to be really.”

Darkest soap storylines

Over the years the likes of EastEndersEmmerdale and Coronation Street have all tried to try outdo each other with their outlandish plots in a bid to keep us tuning in each week. But here are some of the darkest that had fans in shock…

  • EastEnders: Tony grooming Whitney (2008-2009) – Tony King first appeared in Albert Square in 2008 as the boyfriend of Bianca, played by Patsy Palmer. But it was quickly revealed he was a paedophile who had been grooming vulnerable Whitney, Bianca’s adopted stepdaughter from a previous relationship, since she was 12. The shocking storyline attracted more than 200 complaints within a week of it beginning. Whitney waited until her 16th birthday to reveal the truth to a horrified Bianca, who called the police.
  • Emmerdale: Holly’s drug addiction and shock death (2010-2016) – In 2010, Holly Barton (played by Sophie Powles) became Emmerdale’s first teenage drug addict. The shocking storyline saw her taking cocaine on a night out before developing a deadly heroin habit. Parents John and Moira desperately tried to help get their daughter clean but when Holly returned in 2016, following a four-year absence, she quickly relapsed. Fans were left stunned and heartbroken when distraught Moira found Holly dead in her bed from a heroin overdose.
  • Hollyoaks: Luke’s rape (2000) – Actor Gary Lucy was just 17 when he took on this groundbreaking storyline, which saw his character Luke Morgan become soap’s first male rape victim. Luke had endured a long-running bullying campaign by football rival Mark Gibbs – who raped him after Luke stood up to him. Luke was left suicidal following the brutal attack, before opening up to his brother Adam. Gibbs was sentenced to eight years in prison. Gary won the Best Actor gong at the British Soap Awards in 2000 for his performance.
  • Coronation Street: Evil Richard Hillman (2001-2003) – Just a mere mention of ‘Richard Hillman’ is enough to send a shiver down the spines of soap fans. He is often ranked one of the most evil soap villains and it’s not hard to see why. The smooth-talking financial adviser bashed his ex-wife Patricia over the head with a shovel. In a bid to keep his mother-in-law Audrey quiet, he set fire to her house. And when Maxine caught him trying to murder Emily Bishop, he took a crowbar to her head. He made his exit from the cobbles in 2003 when he drove Gail Platt, played by Helen Worth, and her family into the canal. They survived, but he didn’t.
  • But, Nicola’s interference creates a war with Laurel.

Just as Laurel and Arthur have turned a corner, could Laurel undo the good work?
