Australian musician reveals how she made Coldplay frontman Chris Martin break down in tears when they met

Australian musician Gordi revealed the moment she made Coldplay frontman Chris Martin cry at an event at Melbourne’s Bakehouse Studios on Monday.

The singer-songwriter, 31, whose real name is Sophie Payten, said the pop-rock star, 47, was brought to tears when he heard her new single Lunch at Dune.

Gordi took to Instagram the morning after the event to detail the shocking moment, revealing that the Fix You hitmaker had “said songs like that deserve to be heard.”

“I started playing the song, and at this point, in the second verse, I was like, ‘What’s even going on? I’m with Chris Martin, get together,” Gordi said.

“I close my eyes, I lean into the emotion of the song. Before I know it, the song is over. I open my eyes, look up at Chris Martin, and he’s crying, tears falling from his eyes.

‘He said really nice things about the song. He told me it was beautiful, he said songs like that deserve to be heard.

“It was just the most crazy, beautiful moment of my life. And I can’t believe no one has it on camera.”

The artist, who also works as a doctor, was invited to a secret meeting with several local artists this week to meet Chris.

Pop singer-songwriter Kian and indie rockers Radio Free Alice were among the guests, while Gordi received a special call from Chris.

‘When Chris Martin goes to other countries, he apparently likes to meet local artists. Truly a wonderful man; who could do that when they’re on tour,” Gordi revealed.

She went on to say that Chris asked the musicians he invited if “there was an artist in the room named Gordi,” prompting her to raise her hand.

‘He said, “I’ve been listening to your music. It’s really beautiful.” I said, “Thanks Chris Martin,” Gordi said.

Chris then invited Gordi to play something with him on the piano, and then she sang her tear-jerking new single that she recorded with Irish artist SOAK.

“Right now I’m thinking, ‘I wish I hadn’t just eaten four giant lamb chops,’” Gordi joked.

British rock band Coldplay kicks off their Music of the Spheres tour in Melbourne on Wednesday evening, with Chris performing alongside bandmates Johnny Buckland, Guy Berryman and Will Champion.

A leaked setlist has recently been circulating online, revealing the potential line-up of songs the band could bring to their sold-out concerts Down Under.

Coldplay are expected to perform their best-loved hits for the ecstatic crowd, including Yellow, Viva La Vida and Fix You.

There are also rumors that they have planned a special tribute for the late cricketing great Shane Warne, who was a close friend of Chris.

The frontman is tipped to perform his heartfelt ballad Song For Shane, which was written in honor of Shane after he passed away in March 2022.
