Due to ongoing power outages at some of the Catawba County School’s facilities, there will be no school for students on Tuesday (October 1) with an optional teacher workday. Quest will be closed. The system plans to continue to make decisions on a day-to-day basis and keep you updated. Extracurricular and athletic activities will be allowed after school Tuesday as they are able. Check with your individual school or coach for updates.
There is no school for students Tuesday in the Hickory City Schools, it is an optional teacher workday. Newton-Conover City Schools will be closed for students on Tuesday. Staff will observe an Optional Teacher Workday. Kid Connection will operate from 8 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at North Newton Elementary for school-aged children only.
Caldwell County Schools will be closed for students on Tuesday due to road conditions and power outages. It will be an optional teacher workday. It is recommended you confirm your location has power and travel only if safe. Supervisors may allow remote work where possible.
Due to remaining power outages, obstructed roads, and a need to restock our food supplies, Alexander County Schools will remain closed for students on Tuesday and have an optional teacher workday for staff and teachers.
All Burke County Public Schools will continue to be closed for students the remainder of this week. This includes YMCA before and after school sites. Thursday and Friday are optional work days for staff. The staff will have separate messaging for staff on facilities that are open for optional work.
Catawba Valley Community College will be closed for faculty, staff and students for the remainder of the week.
Western Piedmont Community College in Morganton will be closed through Friday, October 4.
Both the Caldwell and Watauga campuses of Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute (CCC&TI) will be closed Tuesday.
