Antioch: One dead, another injured in early morning Highway 4 crash

ANTIOCH — One driver was killed and another sustained minor injuries in a two-vehicle collision early Sunday morning on eastbound Highway 4, just west of the A Street exit in Antioch.

The California Highway Patrol reported that the crash occurred around 5:13 a.m. Officers arrived to find a gray Honda CR-V and a blue Ford F-150 involved in the collision, blocking the number three and four lanes.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the Honda, driven by a man, was disabled in the far-right lane for unknown reasons. The Ford, also driven by a man, was traveling eastbound when it struck the rear of the disabled Honda, causing it to catch fire and trapping the driver inside.

The driver of the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the Ford sustained minor injuries and was transported to a hospital. The lanes were reopened later in the morning.

Authorities did not say whether they believed alcohol, drugs or speed were factors in the crash.

Less than nine hours earlier, on Saturday night at around 8:25 p.m., a woman was critically injured after being struck by a vehicle in Antioch on Lone Tree Way near Canada Valley Road. .

Authorities asked anyone who witnessed the Highway 4 crash or has information about the events leading up to them to contact the CHP Contra Costa office in Martinez at 925-646-4980 or email 320Investigations@chp.ca.gov.
