In response to the growing need for mental health support among young people in western North Carolina following Tropical Storm Helene, Burke County government officials have announced a new partnership with the North Carolina Department of Health & Human Services and the mental health organization “Somethings.” This initiative provides free mental health services for North Carolina teens, designed to help them navigate the unique challenges posed by the recent storm.
The program offers access to a comprehensive list of mental health resources, including in-person counseling, virtual support options, and crisis resources for those in immediate need. To explore these options, teens, families, and educators can view the Western North Carolina Helene Mental Health Resource List. The list, developed by the North Carolina Association of Local Health Directors, is now available on the Burke County government website.
Burke County Emergency Services and Burke County Public Health Department encourage local families to take advantage of these services, emphasizing the importance of mental well-being in building resilience and community recovery.
