AN injury update has been revealed on Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani with Game 3 of the World Series versus the New York Yankees taking place on Monday.
The two-time MLB MVP hurt his shoulder during the Los Angeles Dodgers‘ Game 2 home victory on Saturday night.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters Sunday that Ohtani is “in a great spot and will be playing in game 3 tomorrow.”
Ohtani partially dislocated left shoulder while trying to steal second base in the seventh inning.
The Japanese star was thrown out and was seen clutching his left forearm after being tagged by second baseman Gleyber Torres for the final out in the inning.
Ohtani slid feet first and laid near the bag for a few minutes before being tended to by the training staff.
He then left the field and didn’t return to the game.
Ohtani was 0 for 3 with a walk in the contest.
The slugger is 1 for 8 in the first two games of the World Series.
And Ohtani is batting .260 with three home runs and 10 RBIs in the first postseason of his eight-year MLB career.
“That was tough. You never like seeing the best player in the game get injured like that,” Yankees superstar Aaron Judge said.
“Trying to steal a base like that there, and something like that happens.
“But hopefully it’s all good news.
“We’ll see what happens.”
Ohtani had been one of the few star players on the Dodgers team who played the season without a noteworthy injury.
The team’s starting rotation suffered numerous injuries as nearly each member spent time on the injured list.
As for position players, Mookie Betts was out for close to two months due to a broken left hand.
And infield stars Max Muncy was out nearly half the season with a right oblique strain and Freddie Freeman is currently playing in the postseason with a sprained right ankle.
Ohtani is the presumptive 2024 NL MVP.
The 30-year-old recorded 54 home runs and 130 RBIs along with a 310 batting average and 59 steals.
Ohtani will be expected to get ready for Game 3 on Monday when the Dodgers go on the road and face the Yankees in the Bronx, New York.
The Dodgers right-hander Walker Buehler will go up against Yankees’ Clarke Schmidt at 8:08 pm Eastern.
