I won the Super Bowl with the New York Giants – here’s how I would get them back to winning ways

THE New York Giants last won the Super Bowl in 2012, and one of the legends of that team thinks he knows how to fix the current team.

Victor Cruz was a superstar on the Giants when they won the Super Bowl, and he has some ideas for the future of the squad.

The 2024 Giants are a far cry from their Super Bowl winning team.

The team only won nine games when they went to the Super Bowl and won it all, but the current team will be lucky if they even see half that win total.

After a promising nine win season in 2022, it has only been downhill with the team finishing 6-11 in 2023 and currently sitting at 2-5.

There are question marks across the entire offensive side of the team, and massive moves need to be made to get back into contention.

Cruz has some ideas about how the Giants might be able to return to their Super Bowl-winning ways.

While campaigning with Tide for their #TideTackles campaign, Cruz discussed how he would change the offense of the current team with Daniel Jones at quarterback.

“First of all I would just try to put us in a position where Daniel Jones feels free,” Cruz told The U.S. Sun.

“I would try to simplify the offense and try to put him in position to not have to think as much and just go out there and play.

“Whether that’s maybe throwing more of a spread formation or something that puts the ball in his hand and makes him be decisive with it immediately.

“It’s always about a balanced attack, but I think it’s more so about moving guys around. Moving Malik Nabers around the entire offense and putting him in position where the defense can account for him every single down.

“Just making sure Daniel Jones has the ball more so that he can move freely and just have this freedom within the offense.

“Just see what happens.”

While Cruz thinks there is a way to adjust the offense with the current group that the Giants have, he admitted that they have weaknesses.

“From a personnel perspective, they need to go get another receiver next year,” Cruz continued.

“They need to go get another bona fide running back that can go out there and run the football.”

Malik Nabers is a bright spot on the Giants roster. He has 39 catches for 427 yards and three touchdowns this season.

The issue is that he is basically the only solid receiving option on the team. He has almost a third of the entire team’s receiving yards.

New York also lost running back Saquon Barkley this offseason, and are without a good running option while he tears it up in Philadelphia.

The Giants’ top rusher is Devin Singletary with only 239 yards and two touchdowns.

Cruz recognized that those two positions need beefing up in the offseason, but also admitted that the team could be on the lookout for Jones’ replacement too.

“Then figure out what we do at quarterback next year,” Cruz said.

“They’re [the Giants] gonna be in a position where if Daniel Jones doesn’t play to the ability that they like, they’re gonna be in a market for a quarterback.

“So we’ll see what happens.”

The Giants do have one positive on their team which is the defense. They have the most sacks in the league with 31, and they are only allowing 21.3 points per game which is in the upper half of the league.

If they can retain that defense and properly utilize what should be a top-10 pick in the offseason, things could start turning around for the Giants.

They also have a considerable amount of cap space with over $40 million available for free agent acquisitions.

While the remainder of this season may not be fun for Giants fans, there may be something to look forward to in the future.
