Plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit claim hackers stole their information through unauthorized file transfer activities.

They attribute this to Orrick, Herrington and Sutcliffe’s alleged negligence.

The data breach class action lawsuit says the firm should have implemented reasonable cybersecurity measures to protect client information.

The Silicon Valley firm didn’t admit to any wrongdoing but agreed to pay $8 million to resolve the data breach class action lawsuit.

Under the settlement’s terms, class members can receive cash benefits, including lost time payments, expense reimbursement and California compensation.

The settlement provides reimbursement for up to five hours of lost time compensated at a rate of $25 per hour.

In addition to this, those affect can also receive up to $2,500 in reimbursement for ordinary expenses incurred while responding to the data breach.

This also applies to any resulting identity theft or fraud – totaling up to $7,500 payments.

But class members can opt for an alternative cash payment of $75 instead if they want to give the reimbursement payments a miss.

And class action members local to California can nab an additional payment of $150 under California’s Consumer Privacy Act.

It’s worth noting that class members are also eligible for three years of free three-bureau credit monitoring and identity theft protection.

The class action benefits those who received a data breach notification from Orrick, Herrington and Sutcliffe between March 2023 and December 2023.

But in order to receive settlement benefits, class members have got to submit a valid claim form by October 28.

The final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for November 8.

Proof of purchase required to secure the cash includes account statements, phone or internet bills, tax returns and more.
