A GEARHEAD who found a dusty Rivian truck sitting in a junkyard discovered that it hid a surprise in the bed.
Car expert Randy Shear of the popular YouTube channel Auto Auction Rebuilds dedicates his time to look for beat up vehicles that could be salvaged.

In a recent video, he finds a very stylish Rivian R1T in an auction yard that seemingly met a sorry end in a very unusual way.
Covered in dust and with a piece of blue protective plastic on top of it and just a ding on the right side of the load bed, the vehicle is seemingly in pretty good shape.
The YouTube star comments on how surprising it is to see the luxury EV in a junkyard, saying: “That’s not something you see everyday out here, in fact I’ve only ever seen one Rivan at Copart locally in my day.
“This is kind of a treat.”
However, Randy quickly notices what could be the problem with the vehicle – which can retail from around $86,000 through to $102,000 from new.
Underneath the protective plastic, it’s revealed that the truck’s sunroof is missing along with the rear window, with shattered glass covering the seats inside.
Many vehicles found at Copart have previously been involved in a road accident, yet the Rivian’s airbags have not been deployed, indicating that it wasn’t involved in a collision.
In fact, it appears something very heavy fell on top of the vehicle – likely towards the back of it.
Seeing as Randy Shear then finds a large tree limb in the load bed, it seems a branch fell off a tree and crushed the helpless truck – and it’s likely the insurance company kept evidence to prove what had happened.
Randy also reveals that the truck’s battery is dead, meaning there’s no way to check the vehicle’s mileage, but considering the US car marque started delivering the R1T in late 2021, the vehicle could be no older than three years.
The R1T, the second-fastest pickup truck on the mass market with a 0 to 60 mph time at 3 seconds, sold just under 20,000 iterations last year.
Buying vehicles at Copart has become a popular trend in recent years, with demand for used cars, vans, and motorcycles rising after the Covid-19 pandemic.
The online auction house sells over 400,000 used and salvage vehicles every year, and is championed for its contactless services which encourages online bidders.

The Rivian R1T, one of the fastest-growing electric vehicles in the US, has dozens of hidden features laden in its Amazon-inspired cabin.
I took a tour of the Rivian R1T pickup and R1S three-row SUV in the company’s showroom in the Meatpacking District of New York City.
The plush cabins inside the $70,000-plus trucks are filled with hordes of gadgets and gizmos.
But one button, propped on the steering wheel, gives drivers control well beyond the road.
Drivers may even use their voice to access the system instead of a button.
All Rivian trucks have Amazon Alexa capabilities built into the interior.
Drivers can give dozens of voice commands through their cars, according to Amazon.
The button, propped on the left side of the steering wheel, will open Alexa up to a Rivian driver’s request.
If the system is fully voice-operational, drivers can also access the Amazon-based capabilities with their own voice.
Drivers can also make more car-based requests.
“Alexa, take me home,” the company says drivers can command the car.
When activated, Alexa will pull up Rivian’s proprietary navigation screen to suggest routes to incorporate fast charging.
Generally, the cars available from Copart are sold on behalf of insurance companies, banks, finance companies, fleet operators, dealers, and the general public.
This comes as a hugely popular Toyota model loved by families has been handed a range of improvements – including a minifridge and a vacuum.
