Walmart speaks out after shoppers blast ‘annoying’ new grocery app change – and customers beg chain for easy fix

WALMART has spoken out after shoppers slammed an “annoying” update to its grocery app, begging the retail giant for an easy fix.

The change has seen customers going through extra steps when ordering products, which many have found disruptive to their shopping experience.

One furious shopper tagged Walmart in a tweet expressing frustration with the new process.

Going by @TyronePartDeux on X, they wrote: “Your grocery ordering through the app has gotten annoying recently.

“A lot of the items no longer have the ‘add’ button.

“You have to click on the item, take it off subscribe (which I have never used), then click add.

“This just started, and it’s pretty annoying. Update?”

The issue, which appears to stem from an updated app feature linking products to Walmart’s subscription service, has reportedly led to several inconveniences for customers.

Instead of simply tapping an “add” button to place items into their carts, users are now required to navigate through multiple screens.

They must deselect a subscription option before being able to add the product to their cart, resulting in a more complicated process for shoppers trying to complete orders quickly.

Walmart has acknowledged the feedback from customers like @TyronePartDeux, confirming the company is actively investigating the problem.

A Walmart spokesperson replied: “We appreciate our customers’ patience as we work on enhancing the app experience and are taking feedback seriously.

“While Walmart has yet to release a timeline for when these issues might be resolved, the company emphasized that it aims to make the shopping experience as seamless as possible.”

Walmart also appears to be trialing a new piece of tech in a fresh bid to clamp down on theft.

A recent video shows a Walmart worker using an electronic scanner to scan a receipt, explaining the tools are being trialed in 100 stores.

In the clip, the worker can be seen showing her colleague how to use the machine, detailing three important checks it will make.

“It just shows that your receipt is from the last four hours, that it’s from this store, and the items in that receipt,” the employee says.

The worker goes on to claim shoppers have been bringing in a number of fake receipts, noting that she has seen at least two herself.

“We’ve been getting a lot of fake receipts,” she says.

It comes after a Costco shopper was left puzzled over an “inconsistent” gift card policy at the warehouse club chain.

The confused client wondered whether they could shop at Costco without a membership, despite receiving a $200 shop card as a gift.

The shopper, who went by ZhangMooMoo on Reddit, shared: “Can I walk into a Costco with a shop card?

“I am a college student and just received a $200 Costco shop card from my family uncle as a birthday gift.

“Though I don’t have a Costco membership, nor do my friends.

“I am wondering, can I just walk into a Costco with a shop card in my hand?”

One user responded, offering some clarity but also reinforcing concerns about inconsistent enforcement of the policy.

“Yes, you can,” the reply began, but went on to detail just how unpredictable the experience can be.

“There’s a lot of inconsistency between stores, though, so one store may let you right in the entrance, and another store may escort you through the registers to membership to get a temporary membership.”
