Baker Mayfield suspension fears after Buccaneers QB’s ‘disgusting’ act caught on live TV during Ravens loss

BAKER MAYFIELD could face an NFL suspension following the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

The Bucs were beaten 41-31 in Tampa on Monday Night Football to move to 4-3 for the season.

Mayfield threw 370 yards for three touchdowns with two interceptions during the game.

However, it was his off-field behaviour which has fans sweating over his involvement this weekend.

The 29-year-old quarterback was spotted using nicotine pouches, or snus, whilst sat on the sideline.

Known for their perceived calming effects, the pouches are most commonly consumed after training or competition.

It is rare to see them being taken during a game, with some fans slamming Mayfield’s behaviour as “disgusting” after seeing him use them on the bench.

He also runs the risk of being suspended by the NFL, with the use of snus prohibited by the league.

The rulebook states: “Among the types of activity that are prohibited are use of tobacco products (smokeless included) while in the bench area (…).

“In addition to the game day penalties described in this rule, the Commissioner may subsequently impose independent disciplinary action on the club and involved player, up to and including suspension from the team’s next game – preseason, regular season, or postseason, whichever is applicable.”

As a result, Mayfield could be ruled out of Sunday’s clash with the Atlanta Falcons at Raymond James Stadium.

His team will be looking for revenge against their divisional rivals following a 36-30 overtime loss in Georgia earlier this month.

The Heisman Trophy winner is in his second season with the Bucs, after joining in 2023.

He has previously played for the Cleveland Browns, Carolina Panthers and Los Angeles Rams since being drafted number one overall in 2018.
