The Commissioner, Kaduna State Planning and Budget Commission (PBC), Mukhtar Ahmed, has said the state can generate N150 billion in revenue monthly through improved tax management.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ engagement organised by the Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS) with the theme ‘Unlocking Revenue Potential: A Collaborative Strategy for Sustainable Growth through a Centralised Payment Gateway in Kaduna State’, the commissioner said automation of the collection system, inter-agency collaboration and vigorous sensitisation were critical to achieving the desired targets.
“Tax compliance is a major issue in revenue generation in the state. Look at all the beautiful houses in Kaduna and the businesses, we need to support the government by paying our taxes.
“There is a possibility where what is coming from the centre may dry up one day, and we are approaching a stage where people are becoming aware of needs on what they want the government to do for them,” he said.
The commissioner said the ministry is focusing on revenue-generating agencies and has identified 13 contributing N1 billion to the state’s monthly revenue target.
He called on residents to use the new PAYKADUNA platform to seamlessly pay their taxes.
The Executive Director of Standards and Compliance, KADIRS, Ali Gora, said the exercise was designed to educate the stakeholders on its operations and get their feedback.
