NC woman’s dog was missing for over a year — until her visit to the animal shelter

MONROE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Never say never when it comes to your best friend.

A Union County woman was reunited with her dog Tuesday more than a year after it went missing. According to the sheriff’s office, Jade stopped by the Union County Animal Shelter while waiting for her kids to be dismissed from school.

While exploring the adoptable dog area, Jade recognized her long-lost Smokey, who became identified as “Shiloh.” With the help of the shelter staff, she was able to show photos of Smokey’s unique markings, confirming ownership and a joyful reunion.

“We couldn’t be happier for Jade and Smokey, and we’re thrilled to have played a part in bringing them back together,” the sheriff’s office said. “Smokey’s microchip has been updated, ensuring a safe future for this precious pup. Here’s to many happy moments ahead for this reunited family!”
