What is Maps?

The viral Maps dance is also known as the “Wait, they don’t love you like I love you” trend and it has been taking over TikTok.

The trend involves two dances that went viral during the same timeframe.

The first content creator to propel the trend was TikToker @southernbellesuzie who posted herself doing the dance routine on October 15, 2024.

Her video amassed over 6.3 million plays and 2.5 million likes, with many left feeling inspired to recreate the dance themselves.

The second trending Map dance was created by the TikToker, @user_18373563848 and it gained 1.2 million likes in less than two weeks, with thousands saving the clip to go back to and practice.

How to do the Map dance?

If you’re thinking about jumping on the trend, you’ll be relieved to find out that both versions of the Map dance are quite easy to perform.

The first version involves bouncing downward with pointed fingers that alternate every other beat.

And the second dance involves shaking one’s hips side-to-side, hitting one’s hips and then showing a “stop” hand signal to the viewer.

The stop sign gesture became a favorite, adding a playful twist to the song’s lyrics.

Both dances are performed to the track, “yeah yeah yeah” by Maps.
