Father of Kaizer Chiefs midfielder backs Pirates to win the league

Orlando Pirates legend Eugene Zwane believes the Buccaneers have what it takes to win the league this season.

The Buccaneers have won all of their four Betway Premiership matches so far and sit second on the log behind Mamelodi Sundowns on goal difference. The last time Pirates won the league was back in 2012 under Augustos Palacios who was then interim coach.

The Bucs legend, who is the father of Kaizer Chiefs’ rising star Samkelo Zwane, says his former club have a solid team.

“I think what Pirates have done in the last couple of seasons is to build a team that can compete,” Zwane told FARPost.

“If you look at the calibre of players that they have and that they have brought in, it’s players that have great determination, warriors that fight for the team.

“Well, there are times when they don’t play the best football. What’s important is that they are not conceding a lot of goals, and they are scoring more goals. That’s a sign of a championship team, a team that doesn’t concede goals and fight to win games.

“Also, they have a large pool of players who can sustain performance despite injuries and suspensions. They’ve done their preparations well, and they stand a chance [to win the league],” said the Pirates legend Eugene Zwane.

Having claimed the MTN8 already this season, the Buccaneers are now focused on the premiership and the CAF Champions League. Pirates have a chance to reclaim the top spot when they face AmaZulu in a league clash on Friday evening.
