Dollar General shoppers can ditch the mini Butterfingers and multi-packs of M&M’s this spooky season.

This budget buy is likely to prove popular with Trick-or-Treaters and will stand out from the troves of candy.

So if you want to protect your house from a potential TP-ing, why not take a trip to your local Dollar General.

The budget chain store is currently offering tubs of Play-Doh at a significantly reduced rate.

One Facebook user shared a picture of her trolley full of the cheap and cheerful buy.

She revealed the bargain she was able to snag for the Play-Doh haul.

“$0.10 each! Going to give them out at Halloween!” the poster wrote.

She added that the hack would end up saving her money as “it’s actually cheaper than candy.”

The woman posted about the toy deal on a Facebook group dedicated to Dollar General Penny Clearance Shopping.

Penny clearance refers to a system the store has in place to sell off unwanted items.

Fool.com explained how the shopping hack works, revealing that some buys are even reduced to just $0.01.

“The store has a system in which items that are supposed to be removed from stock are priced at $0.01,” they said.

“If employees do not remove these items from the shelves before the price adjustment happens, they’ll ring up for only a penny.”

Facebook users shared their thoughts on the bargain buy turned budget Halloween hack.

Halloween dupes

There are several Halloween dupes to help you celebrate on a budget.

Dollar Tree has $3 haunted plants that are 90% cheaper than the ones at Michael’s.

The discount store also has hanging pats for just $1.25, while a major competitor sells them for $15.

Pottery Barn fans found a dupe for the store’s famous floating ghosts that are 61% cheaper.

Shoppers even found a dupe for Disney’s famous character pumpkins at Kohl’s.

“As a diabetic mama, this is awesome. Not everyone can have candy,” wrote one woman.

“That’s a great idea! Kids get so much candy as it is, I think they will love this,” agreed another reader.

“It’s a great idea. My daughter thinks it’s great when she gets different things besides candy,” said a third commenter.

“I think that’s a lovely idea and kids should be grateful for what they get so should their parents, they’re not paying for it,” commented another person.

“Yes!! I am doing one bag of candy, one 42 container of Play-Doh, and found some glow in the dark rings,” wrote one Facebook user.
