UBISOFT launched several big-name games this year, including Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown and Star Wars Outlaws.
Both games achieved critical acclaim but it appears Ubisoft was not happy with the sales figures.

The team that created Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown has reportedly been disbanded and Ubisoft says it took “learnings” from Star Wars Outlaws.
This led the company to make big changes to the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Shadows, leading to a four-month delay.
Shadows was delayed from November 2024 until February 2025 alongside a number of major changes.
Ubisoft’s PC games are usually only released on Ubisoft Connect, but moving forward they will be released on the more popular Steam, too.
Ubisoft said it would remove the Season Pass which allows people to pre-purchase DLC.
‘Early Access’ has also been cancelled, a feature that allows players who pay more to play days or even a week earlier than those who pay the standard price.
Players have been pushing back against these features, which have become the norm among triple-A developers.
People say they feel pressured into paying more for games, just so they can play them on release day.
It seems that Ubisoft is finally looking at the structure of its games, rather than the quality, in order to increase sales.
With the removal of the Season Pass and Early Access, Ubisoft has also decided to change the price of the Collector’s Edition.
In the US, the Collector’s Edition included these bonuses and goodies like a statue, artbook and steel book.
The price has dropped from $280 to $230 to reflect the changes in the contents.
This is a massive $50 drop on the original price, and everyone will be able to play their game at the same time.
Stealth price drop
The changes taken by Ubisoft to improve Assassin’s Creed Shadows are all consumer-friendly and this is certainly a step in the right direction.
It seems that Ubisoft is finally looking at changing business practices rather than blaming the developers when it comes to poor sales.
We’re sure that these consumer-friendly changes will lead to improved sales of Shadows and hope it serves as an example to the industry.
With all of the layoffs happening in gaming, it’s clear that companies will need to change their strategies if they want to keep making great games.
