PSL transfer rumours: Appollis, Velebayi, Mofokeng, Obunga, Tau

The PSL rumour mill is bubbling with plenty of star names attracting North African and European clubs.

Kaizer Chiefs are linked with several marquee players but will have to fend off Champions League-calibre clubs to land their targets. At the same time, Orlando Pirates hope their wonderkind isn’t allured overseas.

Transfer gossip

  • Interest in Oswin Appollis has skyrocketed since AmaKhosi failed to land him in the winter. Now, they face tougher competition—not only are the Soweto Giants hoping to get the 23-year-old, but there seems to be interest in North Africa and Europe, too.
  • Asanele Velebayi is another target on Nasreddine Nabi’s summer wishlist, and they could increase their offer after having several rejections a few months ago. Cape Town City FC’s poor form could also prompt Velebayi to get the deal over the line.
  • Bafana Bafana maestro Percy Tau’s future is uncertain following a falling out with Al-Alhly coach Marcel Koller. His next destination is uncertain, but there’s plenty of belief he will be on the move with Kaizer Chiefs and Wydad Athletic showing interest.
  • Goalscoring machine Michael Obunga is another Kaizer Chiefs target however his R114 million price tag may be too high.
  • Following his breakout 2023/24 season, Relebohile Mofokeng has been turning heads on the international stage, drawing interest from top clubs like Glasgow Rangers and RB Salzburg.

PSL frontman Appollis on the move?

Along with attacking-winger Asanele Velebayi, Polokwane FC’s main man was seemingly set to leave the club over the winter; however, there is still talk of a transfer occurring in January.

“Chiefs are professional in the way they deal with transfers, and they will go through the right channels again when the window opens again but other clubs have shown interest in Ossie (Appollis) as well. I can’t tell you which club in Europe wants him because it’s still too early to say but it’s not only in Africa where he’s in demand. At the end of the day, Polokwane City will have the final say because he has a contract with them”, an inside source told the The Citizen.
