A WOMAN has been left mortified by her neighbour’s unruly ivy plant which seems to want nothing more than to invade her garden.
The avid gardener revealed her neighbour’s ivy had completely taken over their fence – and now was on its way to hers.
She shared a picture of the ivy growing over her fence and trying to attack her shed[/caption]
Taking to Reddit she asked: “How to stop my neighbour’s ivy infestation from taking over my shed?”
She then showed an image of the damage to some of her neighbour’s garden.
Her fence was pushed a few inches away from their shared fence and the ivy was constantly growing past the border and almost touching her precious fence.
English Ivy is known to be invasive and hard to get rid of once it has grown fully.
It’s a fast-growing plant that can cling to the side of homes, fences, sheds and walls and whilst it may look pretty, over time it can cause damage to gardens and properties.
It can cause serious damage to brickwork as well as fences and sheds when it’s left to grow.
She explained: “I’ve left a gap in the fence so I can squeeze down and hack it back periodically, but it’s hell bent on growing into my shed.
“She’s lost her entire shed to it and I’ll be damned if it takes mine!”
The woman added that her neighbour wasn’t fussed on keeping the ivy but wasn’t doing anything to solve the problem – leading her to ask for help on keeping it away from her property.
The post was shared on the How To Reddit forum where it went viral with hundreds of comments and people sharing their 65p hacks.
Plenty of people took to the comments to share their thoughts – and some thought the woman was fighting a losing battle.
One person wrote: “Resistance is futile. Congratulations on your new ivy covered shed.”
Another commented: “Not a battle you have a war on your hands and ivy is NATO it’s almost unbeatable.”

One man explained: ”What will then happen is the plants will absorb it, as they get damp when it starts to rain because they’re thirsty – because it’s been sunny. That’s nature’s way of killing it.”
WASH THIS: According to Sam Marlow, a gardening expert, washing powder is an affordable way to say goodbye to weeds.
He advised: “If you’re on a budget, there’s a cheap way to keep weeds at bay. If you want to remove persistent unwanted plants from paths or patios, try using washing powder. It’s a super easy way to banish weeds once and for all.”
“Bleach and salt,” penned a third.
A fourth said: “Get some water softener salt and a couple gallons of vinegar. Spill it all around the ground where the Ivy is growing.”
“For cheapest removal spray water with salt,” claimed a fifth.
Someone else added: “Rock salt the ground on your side of the fence, nothing will grow on either side for years.”
