Dad brings 30-year-old coupon to Target after finding it in old letter & is stunned by response as he tries to redeem it

A NEW dad has been shocked by a major retailer’s generous response after he used a coupon that was in storage for three decades.

Logan Ivey was looking through old memorabilia when he found an aged Gerber coupon originally gifted to his mom when he was born 30 years ago.

The coupon offered $1 off any Gerber item besides food and promised that there was no expiration date for the deal.

Ivey’s mom never used the coupon from 1993, which was in a letter from her friend when Ivey was a newborn, but ended up saving it.

As Ivey prepared to have a kid of his own, he and his fiancée decided to try to use the coupon at Target and document the experience in a video on TikTok.

“We thought it would be funny to try to see if the coupon was actually still usable since it had no expiration date,” Ivey told Newsweek.

The pair attempted to cash in the coupon on a pair of socks – but were met with confused staff members at the register.

“At the checkout, I handed the lady the coupon, but she did not know what to do because there was nothing for her to scan,” Ivey recounted in the TikTok post.

He said two other workers were called over to inspect the coupon before the employees decided to give him the dollar off his $9 purchase, bringing it to $8.

“Thank you to my mom for never using this coupon,” Ivey said in the clip.

The TikTok, posted in January under the username @heckinsick, has now amassed over two million likes and 17 million views – and Gerber even responded to the wild story.

The baby products company made a video offering Ivey and his fiancée an entire year’s supply of baby food and clothes.

“We saw your video and love that you were able to use a little piece of our history as you get ready to bring your own Gerber baby into the world,” a Gerber spokesperson said in a response video posted to TikTok.

“While it’s incredible that you were able to use our old coupon, we want to offer you something bigger and better,” the staffer, who’s worked for Gerber for 37 years, said.

“Congratulations to you and your fiancée, we’re so excited for you!” the company added.

“Thanks to your mom for hanging on to that coupon, it was so fun to see one of those again.”

Gerber’s full response

Gerber responded to Logan Ivey’s TikTok with an even better offer than the discount from his 30-year-old coupon.

“Hey Logan, Lori from Team Gerber here!” the response video began.

“I’ve been with Gerber for 37 years and I remember these coupons very well.

“We saw your video and love that you were able to use a little piece of our history as you get ready to bring your own Gerber Baby into the world.

“While it’s incredible that you were able to use our old coupon, we want to offer you something bigger and better, and gift you a year’s supply of baby food, plus a wardrobe of baby clothes from our friends at Gerber Childrenswear.

“Congratulations to you and your fiancée, we’re so excited for you!

“And thanks to your mom for hanging on to that coupon, it was so fun to see one of these again.

“Send us a DM – we promise this offer won’t expire either.”

Ivey told Newsweek that his mom didn’t mind that he took the coupon for himself.

“We were very excited for this, and thought the whole thing was crazy since it started from a small $1 off coupon,” he told the outlet.

“So many people commented that they were mad that I cut up a card that had sentimental value, and I was ruining the memory.

“But, in the 30 years my mom had that card, she had probably only looked at it once or twice.

“But now my mom has shown so many people my video, and the Gerber response video. She, of course, showed it to her best friend who gave the card 30 years ago who loved it, and was not mad that I cut it up.”

Ivey added that Gerber included a special touch to the company’s gift to the new parents.

“Also, a nice touch was that, in the package Gerber gave us, they recreated the card, and the coupon, but this time with the baby food and wardrobe, so we now have an intact card to go with the cut-up one,” he said.

A look at Ivey’s TikTok account reveals that Gerber also sent flowers to the couple on the day their son was born.

The U.S. Sun has reached out to Gerber for comment.
