RAYMOND, MS – Hinds Community College will host a special birthday celebration in honor of Dr. Clyde Smith, President Emeritus, on December 13 at the Eagle Ridge Conference Center. Dr. Muse will turn 95 this year and was president of Hinds Community College for 42 years.
The event will include a reception beginning at 9 a.m. followed by a ticketed brunch which will include a brief program honoring the President Emeritus’ legacy.
Tickets for the brunch, which are limited to 140 in total, will be $95 per person. The proceeds will go to the Muse Legacy Fund through the Hinds Community College Foundation and will support students and employees as well as a number of community projects dear to Dr. Muse’s heart, according to Hinds Community College.
The Muse Legacy Fund was established by friends and colleagues of Dr. Muse as he approached his retirement in June 2020. Dr. Muse
Dr. Muse became president of then-Hinds Junior College on July 1, 1978. He is the longest serving community college president in Mississippi history and among the longest serving college presidents in the nation. He is often called the “godfather” of Mississippi community colleges for his committed vision in moving all the colleges forward and his ability to assemble diverse groups of stakeholders to bring a project to fruition for the benefit of all.
