KANSAS CITY CHIEFS head coach Andy Reid opted against tents and instead adopted a hilarious trick to protect his players from the scorching sun.
The Chiefs took visited the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday at the Levi’s Stadium and won 28-18.
That was despite dealing with an 84F (28.9C) heat and the sun beating down on their bench.
Most NFL teams opt for tents in these sorts of situations, however Reid found another way to shield his starters.
Instead, the 66-year-old tactician had the backups of the offensive line stand in front of his starting stars.
Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes, though, didn’t require any protection as he just “took it”.
FOX NFL Sunday reporter Erin Andrews spotted that unusual scene and said: “Well, it was supposed to be about 84F.
“I can tell you, [with] the sun beating down most teams, they like to bring tents when it’s very hot and bright on their sideline.
“Not the Chiefs, man. They use the backups of the offensive line to protect their starters.
“I will say, though, Patrick Mahomes – nobody stands in front of that guy. He just takes it.”
The tactic did pay off for the Chiefs who left California with the victory.
But that didn’t stop NFL fans from having a bit of fun on social media.
One fan tweeted: “Veteran minimum sunshields.”
Another commented: “Actual shields.”
A third said: “Imagine the bickering for shade spots…”
This one said: “Backup offensive line: Multi-talented and sun savvy. Genius!”
And that one stated: “Just get the tent…”
