SOME Americans could get paid tens of thousands to move across the country.
The direct payment opportunity comes from a unique initiative designed to help foster community in a growing area.
The Shoals area in Northwest Alabama is looking to grow its community[/caption]
Known as the Remote Shoals Program, certain residents could get $10,000 to live and work remotely in Northwest Alabama.
The Shoals area is collectively known as the Florence-Muscle Shoals MSA and is located within Colbert and Lauderdale counties in Alabama.
Included in The Shoals are four cities — Florence, Muscle Shoals, Sheffield, and Tuscumbia.
There are several advertised benefits to moving.

The Remote Shoals Program also emphasized that The Shoals is a short two-hour drive to other major cities, including Birmingham, Nashville, and Memphis.
It’s also only a one-hour flight from Charlotte.
Along with the $10,000 cash initiative to move and get settled, the program emphasized that prospective candidates would have significantly low living costs.
It cited a 2022 median housing price of $204,917.
Additionally, the area has a thriving and diverse population, with The University of North Alabama in nearby Florence.
There’s also a “rich musical, cultural and creative heritage” in The Shoals with famous recording studios and a “year-round lineup of music and arts festivals.”
The Shoals also have plenty of fishing, golfing, shopping, hiking, and nightlife for interested candidates.
ELIGIBILITY
There are at least four crucial requirements interested candidates must meet to get the $10,000 to move and live in The Shoals.
First, they must be 18 years or older and eligible to work in the United States.
They must also make a minimum $52,000 annual income.
Remote Shoals Program Criteria
There are four crucial criteria that candidates for the Remote Shoals Program must meet to get $10,000. Each is listed below:
- Must be 18 or older and able to work in the U.S.
- Must make $52,000 per year pre-tax income
- Must be self-employed or full-time remote
- Must move to The Shoals within six months
That income has to be obtained through full-time remote employment or self-employment outside of the Colbert and Lauderdale counties.
Lastly, the move to The Shoals must be made within six months after being approved.
APPLYING AND PAYMENT
Applications for the Remote Shoals Program can be made through its website.
Currently, they are paused until March 1, 2025, and will stay open until March 31.
Selections for candidates will then be made by June 2025.
The $10,000 will then be distributed into three different parts.
For initial relocation costs, 25% of the cash, or $2,500, will be given right away to approved applicants.
Another $2,500 is then sent after the first six months of living in The Shoals, with the remaining $5,000 sent after the first year.
The Remote Shoals Program emphasized the opportunity as a “sweet deal that keeps getting sweeter.”
