Nearly 30 dogs living in ‘horrific conditions’ leads to arrest in Honea Path

HONEA PATH, S.C. (WSPA) – A woman was arrested after officers found nearly 30 dogs living in “horrific condition” on a property in Honea Path Saturday night.

The Honea Path Police Department said officers were called to a property on Blue Willow Circle after receiving a call regarding animals at-large. Once on scene, police found several dogs held in small enclosures, two puppies and several others wandering the property and roadway freely.

Officers also found one dog dead on the property.

An investigation by the police department, Anderson County Sheriff’s Office and PAWS went late into the evening. According to the police department, officials were able to seize 13 dogs, though several were unable to be captured and remain on the property.

“Efforts to locate and provide care for these additional canines will continue throughout the week,” Chief Chris Miller said.

Reports state Betty Ordonez, of Greenville, was arrested and charged with the following:

  • 14 counts of ill-treatment of animals
  • 14 counts of failure to comply with DHEC regulation on vaccination of domestic animals
  • 1 count of failure to bury a deceased animal
  • 7 counts of dogs running at large

Ordonez is being held at the Anderson County Detention Center with additional charges possible.
