Aussies slam Lidia Thorpe over foul-mouthed outburst at King Charles’ royal welcome ceremony: ‘Remove her from politics’

Independent senator Lidia Thorpe was criticized for her protest stunt against King Charles at Parliament House in Canberra on Monday afternoon

Independent senator Lidia Thorpe was criticized for her protest stunt against King Charles at Parliament House in Canberra on Monday afternoon.

The King had just finished speaking in the Great Hall when Mrs. Thorpe shouted a torrent of abuse at the monarch.

“You committed genocide against our people, give us back our country!” she shouted, wearing a native fur coat.

‘Give us what you stole from us! Our bones, our skulls, our people, you destroyed our country!

‘Give us a treaty, we want a treaty in this country! This is not your country, this is not your country! You’re not my king, you’re not our king. You’re a genocide plotter!’

As she was dragged from the scene, she was heard shouting: “F*** the colony, f*** the colony.”

The reaction on social media to the controversial senator’s outburst was swift and brutal.

‘Good old Lidia Thorpe Can’t resist making a D******* of herself. She should be removed from politics once and for all,” one person wrote.

“Lidia Thorpe is making a fool of herself by shouting abuse at King Charles right now,” wrote another on X.

A third simply said: ‘What a shame for Australia.’

Former Treasurer Joe Hockey did not hesitate in his condemnation.

“If any Member of Parliament or Senator seeks attention by misbehaving while dignitaries are visiting, then they should be barred from attending the next three similar events,” he wrote.

“Whatever your opinion, please be respectful of guests.”

High-profile entertainment reporter Peter Ford spoke out about Ms Thorpe’s double standards.

“So everyone must respect the Welcome to Country ceremonies,” he wrote.

“But Lidia, who signed the oath to the Crown, does not have to respect the reigning monarch if she chooses to be in his presence. What a shocker she is!’

Senator Thorpe’s actions in Parliament were preceded by a bizarre altercation with police hours earlier.

As a small group of protesters outside the Australian War Memorial were ordered by police to move on, Ms Thorpe was seen arguing with a police officer holding her shirt.

She then took off her shirt and stormed away from the officer.

“Everything we suffer in this country is due to that colonial invasion,” she said after the fight.

Ms Thorpe, who was elected Greens senator for Victoria before leaving that party and becoming an independent, has often expressed her feelings towards the monarchy.

Last year, she and representatives of eleven other countries signed a letter calling on King Charles to apologize for the consequences of colonization.

Another online commenter asked: “How can someone who so blatantly violates his oath/promise continue to serve as a senator,” referring to the oath of allegiance to the monarch that all Australian politicians must take.

Others picked up on the same theme, with one X user writing: ‘Whether she likes it or not, she has sworn allegiance to the Crown.

“Surely her broken oath justifies her removal from parliament?”

Many people also resorted to foul language to express their anger at Ms Thorpe, with one person on X writing ‘Sack Lidia Thorpe now’.

‘F****** disgraceful stain on Australia.’

One person even set up an online poll asking “Is Lidia Thorpe a dropkick?”

At the time of writing, 91.4 percent of voters said ‘yes’.
