Abuja interior, furniture expo to boost Nigeria’s economy – Masari

In an effort to contribute to Nigeria’s ongoing economic reforms, the Abuja Interior and Furniture Expo (AIFE), in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Trade and Investment and the Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science, and Technology, is set to launch its inaugural event.

The Expo, scheduled from December 6-8, 2024, at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, aims to showcase local talent and boost the country’s furniture industry, marking a significant step in advancing Nigeria’s manufacturing and innovation sectors.

In a media launch organised by AIFE, the founder, former Katsina State Governor, Aminu Bello Masari, said this collaboration is essential in driving economic growth and job creation, particularly for the youth.

“AIFE is not just an exhibition; it is a platform for innovation and excellence, allowing local designers and manufacturers to gain global recognition,” he said.

The Expo aims to bring together manufacturers, designers, and investors, creating a space for collaboration and investment in Nigeria’s furniture sector.

Masari noted the urgent need to harness the industry’s potential, especially in addressing unemployment among youth.

“As we face the challenges of a growing population, it is imperative that we turn to private initiatives like AIFE that foster skills development, entrepreneurship, and innovation.

“These are essential ingredients for economic growth and job creation. With the support of relevant government agencies and the private sector, we can turn this platform into a powerhouse for the growth of Nigeria’s interior and furniture industries,” he added.

In his remarks, the director special duties, Dr. Mansur Liman,  welcomed attendees and stressed the significance of AIFE in promoting local manufacturing. “Despite Nigeria’s rich resources, our furniture market is heavily reliant on foreign imports. AIFE aims to showcase our indigenous talent and foster growth in the local industry,” he said.

With significant support from sponsors like Vento Furniture and Istanbul Cafe and Restaurant, the organisers expressed optimism for a successful event. They called on media and stakeholders to spread the word about AIFE’s importance for Nigeria’s economic growth.

“This Expo is designed to bridge that gap, bringing together manufacturers, designers, investors, and consumers to showcase our Made-in-Nigeria furniture and the brilliance of our local talents.

“Our goal is to stimulate the local industry, encourage investment, and ultimately, establish Nigeria as a key player in the global furniture market. The export potential is vast and, if fully realised, could become a significant source of foreign exchange earnings for the country,” he added.

As excitement builds for December, AIFE is said to become an important annual event, showcasing Nigeria’s creativity and craftsmanship in the interior and furniture industries.
