Texas Longhorns fans launched bottles onto the field after a controversial holding call in their game against the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday night.
And incredibly, their shocking protests appeared to be successful when the decision was reversed.
Texas coach Steve Sarkisian urged the home crowd to stop throwing bottles before the call was reversed after further discussion.
Texas fans littered the north side of the field with bottles and other trash when an interception by the top-ranked Longhorns against No. 5 Georgia was initially wiped out by a pass-interference penalty.
Sarkisian was furious with the officials for the call late in the third quarter that appeared to nullify Jahdae Barron’s 36-yard interception return to the Georgia 9. The coach then walked to the far corner of the field and signaled for the student section to settle down. and stop throwing things.
While the debris was being collected, the officials discussed the play and picked up the flag for Barron’s contact with Arian Smith before the pickup.
Two plays later, Quinn Ewers threw a 17-yard touchdown to Jaydon Blue to put the Longhorns up 23-15 after trailing 23-0 at halftime.
