Orlando Pirates star Mofokeng is a hybrid of these two world class Brazilians

Relebohile Mofokeng is one of the most exciting players in South Africa. The Orlando Pirates teen resembles a few household Brazilian superstars.

Mofokeng is going to the top for Orlando Pirates and Bafana

Now a regular for Bafana Bafana, Relebohile Mofokeng already looks so comfortable at the elite level of South African football. His languid, fluid style lends itself well to the frenetic pace of the Betway Premiership. He can slow things down and then accelerate again as he pleases. Mofokeng is an inverted, right-footed winger operating on the left-hand-side for Pirates. He’s adept at going inside or outside his marker, making him the perfect modern winger and a complete nightmare for opposition defenders and managers. Mofokeng also takes up central positions to score crucial goals. He’s been on the score sheet in two separate cup finals for the Buccaneers and he’s still only 19. Rele reminds us of two current Brazilian superstars. But who?

Gabriel Martinelli

Arsenal and Brazil wide forward Gabriel Martinelli is blessed with electric pace. Currently stationed on the left-hand side of the Gunners’ attack, his directness and ability to hold his width balance an Arsenal side reliant on Bukayo Saka to tuck in on the other flank and make the play while skipper Martin Odegaard is out injured. Martinelli’s raw style means he’s tailor-made for the physicality of the Premier League. Mofokeng is perhaps a more patient type of player, but there are similarities.

Vini Jr

Real Madrid’s Viniciur Jr is arguably the best wide forward on the planet. Now 24, he’s graduated from elite wonder kid to world-class operator with ease. Like Mofokeng, Vini Jr thrives in the big games, scoring in each of Los Blancos’ last two UEFA Champions League final wins in 2022 and 2024. Blessed with exquisite balance and acceleration, Vini is the perfect storm of flair, flamboyance, efficiency and end product. He’s the perfect guy to have marauding down your left flank.

Relebohile Mofokeng could do worse than modelling his game on these two Samba stars. The stylistic parallels are there for all to see.
