Aldi reveals ‘lowest-priced’ Thanksgiving meal in five years – it feeds 10 people for $47 and way cheaper than Walmart

ALDI has introduced its Thanksgiving offering for this year, and it can feed nearly a dozen people at an affordable price point.

The holiday basket seeks to combat high grocery prices amid inflation rates and the cost of living many customers face nationwide.

It’s the “lowest-priced” Thanksgiving deal for the company in half a decade, according to a press release on Wednesday.

For just $47, customers can buy the basket at Aldi and feed ten guests this November.

That’s less than $4.70 per person in a move to offer “welcome relief” for customers this holiday season from grocery costs.

Aldi cited reports of an increase in food and drink items nationwide at retailers and supermarkets by 50% since 2019.

With the Thanksgiving offering, it hopes to bring customers back to costs they remember before the coronavirus pandemic in 2020.

“America’s value leader helps shoppers save more and feast more this holiday season with the return of pre-inflation prices,” Wednesday’s release read.

“The meal delivers on the traditional, crowd-pleasing favorites that guests crave without the sales, coupons, minimum purchase requirements, loyalty cards, and other hoops required to save at traditional grocers.”

So, what comes in the $47 Thanksgiving meal?

GRAB A DISH

The main dish is, unsurprisingly, a Butterball turkey.

There’s also stuffing, gravy, spices, rolls, and even a side of mac & cheese.

Additionally, all the necessary ingredients are included for making cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole, and a dessert of pumpkin pie.

The only thing that customers would need to buy separately would be any drinks of preference.

Aldi CEO Jason Hart praised the “inflation-busting” move, noting it as an effort to allow every American to enjoy a full Thanksgiving meal without having to make a financial sacrifice.

“Every day at Aldi, we are focused on finding ways to deliver the lowest possible prices for our customers — and this Thanksgiving is no different,” Hart noted in the release.

How to cut the cost of your grocery shop

BELOW are some tips on how to reduce the amount you spend on groceries.

  • Write yourself a list – Only buy items that you need. If it isn’t on your list, don’t put it in the trolley
  • Create a budget – Work out a weekly budget for your food shopping
  • Never shop hungry – You are far more likely to buy  more food if your tummy is rumbling
  • Don’t buy pre-chopped veggies or fruit – The extra they’ll charge for chopping can be eye watering
  • Use social media – Follow your favourite retailers to find out about the latest deals
  • Be disloyal – You may want to go to different stores to find the best bargains
  • Check the small print –  It’s always worth checking the price per kg/lb/litre when comparing offers so you’re making a like for like decision as a bigger box won’t necessarily mean you get more
  • Use your loyalty cards – Don’t be afraid to sign up to them all. They all work slightly differently – work out what bonus suits you better and remember to trade in your points for additional rewards

“With 25% of U.S. households now shopping at Aldi, we know grocery prices are still top of mind for customers.”

“We worked hard this Thanksgiving to deliver the best value and quality products so everyone can enjoy a traditional meal with family and friends without having to scale back,” he continued.

COMPETITOR CRAVINGS

Aldi’s Thanksgiving meal is also competitive at $47 and much cheaper in comparison to similar offerings from retail giants like Walmart.

Walmart called its Thanksgiving dinner package for 2024 “inflation-free” in a Thursday press release.

It serves only eight people at $6.38 per person for a total of $51.05.

That’s a $4.05 difference between Aldi and Walmart.

However, Walmart’s meal does come with 29 items and ingredients.

The decision between the two will likely come down to shopper’s preferences and budgets.
