High School students teach money skills at Calhan Elementary

(CALHAN, Colo.) — On Wednesday, Oct. 16, personal finance students from Calhan High School did the teaching when they visited Calhan Elementary School to teach money lessons to students.

The visit is part of the National Teen Teach-In, a nationwide campaign to give younger students a chance to learn the basics of saving, spending, and budgeting from “the big kids.”

The campaign is a project of the nonprofit Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy. According to the nonprofit, in an April 2024 Intuit survey, 85% of high school students are interested in learning more about personal finance in school and 95% of high school students currently studying money management find it helpful.

“They can tell that I care because I do really care. I think we are empowering the next generation of youth and maybe the next people that come down and teach the elementary when they’re in high school,” said Keaton Fisher, a Senior at Calhan High School.
